Summary
A warrior woman (sort of), a baker, and a love story that's out of this world...
Cinda has been baking cakes since she was old enough to measure sugar, and she’d tell you that she has a good life. A relationship with one of the sexier royal knights of Arktos City is high on the list of what’s good, but when the lady knight breaks up with her for a fairly stupid reason, Cinda needs a night out on the town to forget her pain...
Talis has been working as a stablehand in the royal stables of Arktos since she arrived in the city three years ago. She wants to be a knight more than anything else in the world, but when she gets the bad news that because of her notorious family she might not ever even get the chance to become a squire - let alone a knight - she needs a night out on the town to forget her pain...
But when her best friend Lellie convinces her to wear a suit of stolen armor (and “borrow” a warrior mare), it sets into motion a night of fantastical adventures, mistaken identity, and a sweeping love story.
Can two women fall in love in just one night?
Just One Night is a funny, sexy, romantic novel that is set in the same world as A Knight to Remember, but it is a stand-alone audiobook. It is part of Bridget Essex's Knight Legends Series about women knights, real-world high high jinks, and love stories that transcend space and time.

A light-hearted and fun book
A lot can happen in a night, especially when you hang out with knights, talking horses and dragons. When Talis learns that her dream of becoming a knight might not ever come true because of the family she comes from, her best friend Lellie – a knight herself – convinces her a night on the town, wearing a stolen armour and riding a very pregnant mare, is the best way to get over the disillusion. They soon meet Cinda, a baker trying to get over her knight ex breaking up with her for the vainest reason. The attraction between the baker and the woman she believes to be a knight is immediate, but the arrival of Talis’s sister, who convinces her she needs her help, turns the night into an unforeseen and dangerous adventure. Strangely enough, this was the longest night of my life. Because of corona and lockdown, I had to stop listening six hours in (I can’t listen to audiobooks with a full house). So I started this on May 2nd and finished on June 22nd. Luckily the story is so much fun that it didn’t suffer from the overly long break. Heavier topics, such as discrimination based on gender identity or social origin, are alluded to in a very organic way, giving the story a touch of seriousness, yet never bringing the fun factor down. There’s an overall feeling of silliness and giddiness that I enjoyed a lot. While part of a series, Just One Knight can totally be read or listened to (narrated by T. J. Richards, who never disappoints) as a standalone. It was my first book by Bridget Essex and I never felt like I didn’t have the necessary knowledge to understand the story and who the characters were. It won’t, however, be my last.

Not on the same level as other books in the series
I loved the other books in this series but, this was quite boring in the beginning and the narrator did not help bring it to life. although its in the same world, previous characters only mentioned briefly. you can really skip this one.

Sometimes We Are What We Pretend Too Be
A Sister of a Knight of the realm falls head over heals for a real life Lady of the realm. In the realm she is a nothing, not even worth looking at twice. Much less speaking too. One thing leads to another and she saves her loves live while wearing some of her sister's things, and there in lays the burn. How can she tell her she is just a commoner, and have the one woman she has loved from afar for years just stop talking to her as so much trash. Or can she keep up this pretense of a Royal Knight without being caught instead of just being a stable hand with no prospects of ever moving up to Squire as many have done. She lacks the blood line. Her sister was Lucky and Good. But it will never happen to her. And if she does go on with the Pretense How Long before she caught and called out! And her Lady Love finds out Anyway and then she will never speak to her again for sure. She is between a Rock and a hard Place, but the heart whats what the heart wants- So guess which story the book is about?

Just might be the best knight of all
Bridget has out done herself with this lady knight book. Of all of her books her lady knight books are her best. Of course I haven’t listen to her latest fantasy romance redo from her previous pen name which is also supposed to be set in this universe . I am a big fan of the entire universe she has created. Finally someone who actually writes lesbian fantasy with just a hint of s&D. She truly gets how a real loving couple feels about each other when they’re in love. (Well that’s still how I feel after 28 year with the women who swept me of my feet. She was a squire in the SCA when I met her boy could she fight with those rattan weapons and sexy oh you want to talk about sexy oh baby oh.) Bridget writes beautiful love scenes without being crass or only having sex in her books. She tells a whole story that would have any romance reader clapping for joy at the end. Also a loud huzzah for TJ Richards the narrator. Her lovely voice added to the story as well. Bridget First off if you’re the one to thank, I don’t really know how it works and anytime I have called asking about another authors series and what happened Audible has been very mysterious , thank you so much for continuing to bring your books to audible for those of us especially who either don’t have time or ability to sit still to read. Also please write more about this couple especially as the squire becomes a knight!
