Summary

All in a couple days' work for Dr. Phineas Templeton.
A quirky English chap with a taste for fine scotch, Dr. Templeton builds a time machine at the behest of his mysterious benefactor. His mission? To meet Jesus Christ Himself, and garner all of the fame, recognition, and accolades that writing an epic time travelogue would bring.
Unfortunately for Finny, Jesus is actually a fellow time traveler, a hippie named Trent from Colorado in the future. While Trent explains that the past is fixed and immutable (“What happened, like, happened, man...”), Dr. Templeton realizes that he's made a horrible oversight in his calculations, and can't return to his own time period.
The only way home is to follow a list of cryptic instructions his benefactor has hidden on the time machine, which sends him on a madcap, at times hilarious voyage from watching his hero, Sir Isaac Newton, be berated by a high school physics teacher, to hunting dinosaurs, to rescuing two colorful American soldiers and fighting Nazis hellbent on his destruction.
A novel that's been called equal parts The Da Vinci Code and Back to the Future, Jesus Was a Time Traveler combines quirky humor, thought-provoking concepts, intriguing clues, and a finicky universe that would like nothing more than to keep things as they are.

I may go back and read this again ;)
I really enjoy the TT genre, especially if the story looks like it is going to loop and stretch my brain muscle.
This did not disappoint and my only complaint is that I have to wait for the next book to complete the journey, which I will purchase on release.
The time traveller in the title is only a small part of the story, and there are plenty of other TT's with some interesting takes on famous characters, reading it made me want to drink whiskey.

This is amazing
I loved this story, and the Doc is fantastic. I’m so glad to know there is more to come from him. I’m hooked

Pretty Enjoyable overall
I love a good time travel novel, and while this isn’t one of the best, it’s not bad. Luckily the performance by the narrator was far more entertaining than the actual story and made it what it was for me. I was unsure at first, and a lot of reviewers were slating him for his accents, but I would have given up if it wasn’t for the brilliant, almost theatrical reading that made me keep coming back for more. To be fair, it is well written and I’ll probably end up getting the next in the series, at least I know it’ll be entertaining if it’s the same narrator.

The most irritating audio book I've ever had
So much about this book is annoying. It's written in the first person, and the protagonist is supposed to be English, but the narrator has an American accent. This wouldn't normally be a particular problem, but in this case he reminds you of his englishness every few minutes, and at one point makes a big thing of failing to imitate an American accent. Why they didn't choose either an English reader or an American who could carry off an English accent, I can't imagine. The author is also guilty in that his "English" character uses many americanisms such as "wise ass", etc.
The story itself could have done with a good editor - Gelner seems to be one of those writers who will never use a sentence if he can stretch it to a paragraph, so I just found myself thinking "OK, let's move on". He also takes an age working up to the "big reveal", which is a bit pointless as it's there in the blurb: Jesus is a time-travelling hippy.
