Summary

Wer Arzt werden will, muss gut sein in Mathe, nicht in Mitgefühl. Die vorherrschende Auffassung von Begabung und "Intelligenz" ist nicht nur falsch, sondern sehr gefährlich. Eltern und Schulen tun zwar alles, um die Fähigkeiten unserer Kinder zu fördern. Doch weil unser Schul- und Bildungssystem immer noch fast ausschließlich auf Wissensvermittlung und Leistung setzt, bringen wir zwar Einserschüler und -studenten hervor, die dann im Berufsleben aber versagen. Auf der Strecke bleiben viele ungenutzte und frustrierte Talente, und diesen Irrweg beschreiten wir schon viel zu lange.

Gerald Hüther und Uli Hauser beschreiben, welche Begabungen in jedem Kind angelegt sind und wie sich das kindliche Gehirn entwickelt. Sie zeigen, dass unsere Erziehung dem viel zu wenig Rechnung trägt und fordern ein radikales Umdenken: Damit alle Kinder ihre Möglichkeiten ganz entfalten können.
