Summary

Jealousy can invade every relationship, whether it be with husbands, wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, family or friends. If we love others and need their love in return we can all suffer from the pain of jealousy.

Dr Hauck believes jealousy is a self-defeating emotion which drives away the love we crave. He explains what makes us feel jealous, and shows us how we can control it. He distinguishes between jealousy, envy, possessiveness and suspicion and offers practical advice on how we can overcome these in ourselves and in those we love.

Good message but condescending narrative

Lots of good information but the know-it-all writing style is a bit of a block to being able to take it on board, which is reflected in the narrator's tone of voice at times.

Worth reading

I enjoyed this book and it's definitely worth buying if you think you might have problem with jealousy.
I had to pick and choose what's relevant to me but the main idea is brilliant.
The minus would be a bit stereotypical approach to relationships where woman stays at home and man is off pursuing a career. If we can overcome this you will find this book very useful.

I dont even know how to thank the writer

Look, Im just gonna write what happen. I bought this book the morning after one of my monthly jealous breakdowns. The night before I got into an argument with my girlfriend over the time she took to get home from work. I was feeling miserable for treating her that way, she is a good girl and have not giving me a reason to think she is cheating on me, I went to audible and wrote on the search box 'Jealousy' and this book came up. Started to listened at work (Im a painter at a shop so I can listen audiobooks or music all day, lucky me) and scared me the fact that I am on the path of those people who lost their partner because of jealousy, I also felt good to know people have changed and the advise is to the point, if you took the time to read my review I just wanna tell you: this book helps. Now I can control this impulse and overcome it. The help was immediately knowing this I felt as a tense muscle relaxed, it was a good feeling. Bought this book a week ago, Im still fighting it but not the same way, I dont get hulk angry, if I feel the urge to question her I can calm down quickly and cool down and think. She is seeing a better me now and Im glad is not too late, I know she loves me and I am thanking Dr. Paul Hauck for helping to have peace on my mind and therefore give and provide my part on a loving relationship. thank you so much Dr. Paul Hauck, God bless you.

For abusive/controlling individuals only

What would have made Jealousy better?

The author is demeaning to people who struggle with jealous feelings. I believe he calls them "wretched" in the preface. I was looking for a book to help me with feelings I struggle with but don't act on; this book is obviously geared toward abusive, controlling, manipulative people only and the author does not seem to want to help people but seems to be judging them instead. I will look for another book whose author is intent on helping people who are seeking to better themselves and don't want the third degree for negative feelings they are struggling with.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The narrator was fine, the author not so much.

I found pretentious and condescending

What would have made Jealousy better?

I was really hoping for a more evolved and holistic approach. I was really unimpressed with this author and can't imagine how - speaking to people as he does - he could possibly be helping anyone. My impression is that he deeply dislikes the clients he is describing, and that he would be well served learning some less aggressive and demeaning language skills. I am returning this book.

Would you ever listen to anything by Paul Hauck again?

No

What didn’t you like about Bob Sinfield’s performance?

I think he tried his best with what - for me - was poorly written material

Great book for ANYONE in a meaningful relationship

Would you listen to Jealousy again? Why?

I have already. 3 times in 3 days.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Surprised. This book is wonderful. This book is abour respect for one another in a relationship. This book is about helping you take it easy on yourself. A chance for me to really enjoy reflecting on the importance of respect for my wife and myself. A good look at fundamental ideas on worth and sharing happiness.

Any additional comments?

This is not psycho babble on jealousy. I mean the topics flow and are very interesting. No I am not an extremely jealous person. But I love my wife and she deserves to be treated, at all times, as an individual with free choice. (She is not property that I own) Her choice is to love me. And I will do everything and anything to cultivate that beautiful spirit in her. And I have learned so much on how I can improve my behavior and bring more to the table for her ..... and thus ..... to US! Great book!!! Oh. And I have over 300 self improvment books from audible. This is one of the best on relationships and just plain old loving the worth of different personalities. This book will bring you such freedom .... and your loved one will appreciate the change very quickly!!

Keeping an eye on this book like I do my wife!

I'm joking. I loved this book. I recently discovered how much of a jealous person I am after my own infidelity. I did everything this book talks about; a full-on jealousite! I learned some very valuable tools from this book and recognize this is my issue and no one else's. I look forward to letting go of my control. I look forward to building my self-acceptance. This book showed up at the right time in my life. I needed this!!

Great clarity for both parties

This book was very helpful in showing my part of dating an extremely jealous man. It gave me the tools to take my life back and feel some sort of control instead of guilt and blame. He is very clear in this book where the extreme jealousy comes from and how a partner could be encouraging not jealousy when they think they’re actually handling it correctly. I highly recommend this book for people that are struggling with insecurity and jealousy and for people that are dealing with a jealous insecure partner.

Life changing. Really. In a matter of about 2 hours.

I was having such a hard time with everything in my life. I was constantly bickering and fighting with my boyfriend and was convinced it was mostly his fault (I know it takes two but I really couldn’t see what I could be doing THAT wrong). He was staying out with friends, choosing to hang out with certain girls instead of me, and not giving me the love and attention I thought I deserved. One night I told him I was upset, not because I thought he was cheating on me but because I was sad that he was finding comfort in this other girl. He told me that was jealousy. I found this book and it changed my life. Listening to these accounts, I felt like someone had reached into a subconscious that I did not want to face and smacked me with it. I seriously felt free within the first hour.
Jealousy had consumed my life. I was making up insane scenarios of why my boyfriend was an hour late, driving myself crazy every time his phone got a text message, and hating myself more and more every single day. It was ruining my entire life. I was consumed. Listening to this book made me realize I had a problem, made me face it, and gave me the tools I need to combat jealousy. Really, over night I felt like a completely different person. I have gained my confidence back, I really don’t feel jealous anymore, and I even feel like I am falling in love with my boyfriend again, instead of resenting him for every little thing he does. It has also made me appreciate his patience and how much he must love me if he stuck with me through finding out and helping me to fight my jealousy.
Even the first hour of listening to this completely changed my life. I am so grateful. If you even have the smallest thought you might need to read this book, do it.
