Story
When Michelle Thomas suffered her first major depressive episode six years ago, she read and watched and listened to everything about mental health she could get her hands on in an effort to fix herself. God, it was tedious. And, quite frankly, depressing. Which is the last thing she needed. What she did need was a therapist who would listen and offer a wellness strategy catered to her specific needs. What she got was advice to watch a few YouTube videos and a cheerful reminder that 'it could be worse'.

Story
People 'know' my on-stage comedy persona or my scripted ballsy characters and wrongly assume that, at home, I must stomp around all day in designer dresses, eviscerating those who dare to cross my path and denouncing the existence of men in general. But mostly, I just sit eating pickles and being nice to some dogs. I'm often asked how I developed my lurid level of courage and assurance and for tips on how others can match. The Audacity is my chance to share my blueprint for just that.

Story
All too often the focus of mainstream feminism is not on basic survival for the many, but on increasing privilege for the few. Meeting basic needs is a feminist issue. Food insecurity, the living wage and access to education are feminist issues. The fight against racism, ableism and transmisogyny are all feminist issues. White feminists often fail to see how race, class, sexual orientation and disability intersect with gender. How can feminists stand in solidarity as a movement when there is a distinct likelihood that some women are oppressing others?

Widowed with a 10-day-old baby at the age of 34, Rhiannon didn't relate to the stereotypical definitions of widowhood. Not only was she younger than the average widow, but she also hadn't been married to Oliver, her baby's father. In fact, when he died, they weren't even speaking. Grieving a complicated relationship is hard enough. When you add in a death with blurry explanation, it can make characterising your situation too tricky to contemplate.

Thank you
I had to write to say thank you to everyone who write a piece for this wonderful book. I listen too it as an audio book but also book a hard copy so I can keep coming back to it. As someone who has suffered from many mental health problems for all of my teen/adult life. There’s so much I took away from the book. Every piece was so articulate and helped put words to things I have been feeling but not had the words to express. Would definitely recommend this book to everyone. Xxx

Hard to listen to at times approach with caution
Having had my own mental health battle this book intrigued me, but whilst I knew that So many people have mental health issues, actually sitting through 8 hours of dark stories was hard going and did impact my mental well-being.
With only a tiny splattering of helpful tips in the book the relentless sadness this was a tough read.
Also an interesting approach to narrators. Some contributors read their own pieces but the rest are read by two generic narrators. It’s not a bad setup but I enjoyed hearing authors read their own contributions.
