Awfully Disappointed With Narrator

I liked the story line, but am so distracted and annoyed and disappointed with the narrator, I'm bailing 25% of the way through. Let me explain: I listened to, and liked her voice in the preview, but once the tale got underway, it was clear that she doesn't have the skill to pull off, even somewhat believably, the voices of a multitude characters...they all sounded like, well, like her! It's distracting at best, and very annoying the rest of the time.

this is basically a harem

As I stated, this is a harem. If I knew that I wouldn't have bought it. I just wished authors would put a disclaimer for this type of stuff, especially when its scifi.

Would fit nicely in the William D. Arand universe

First off, NOT a harem. Not really sure why people are saying it is. There is only one scene where it's even hinted that one of the women may like him. Even then there is ZERO romance anywhere in this book.

Other than that it's good, not great. Narrator doesn't have many voices she can do, but at least she's expressive enough to communicate sarcasm. Heaven knows where her career would go if she wasn't.

Anyway, the MC pretty much hits all the beats William would have. Sarcastic yet likeable fool who it utterly ruthless with enemies, yet generous to fault with those he deem 'his' people. Pretty much just "Super Sales on Super Hero's" but in space and with technology instead of magic. Would be completely unsurprised if a portal open in book to two see his two lost brother or something. Though I will say it's not as well done.

Protagonist felt forced

This was an okay story, but there were several points where it felt unbelievable, as far as how he acted. Not to mention apparently no one can recognize when a ship with capabilities that give it a huge advantage takes no action to hide them. Tthere were plot holes that could have been taken care of with a singe sentence in each case.

I love the book

Wonderful story. The narrator was a bit dry and lacking emotion. The story itself was wonderful and I have reread it many times. I misplaced my Kindle so decided to download the audio book. I was a little disappointed.

fantastic space Opera

a fantastic adventure that takes the reader on a pulse pounding ride through space. The characters are a rough and tumble bunch that you begin to root for. I can't wait until the next one is released.

Very good start

The book is interesting and hooks you from the very start it’s also not the standard from nothing to riches and power up to my neck story. The characters have recognize able goals and motives and are not flawless or entirely omnipotent so they feel real. And the story is just downright interesting and thought provoking about modern and future issues if you think about it for a bit. Loved the book and read the whole series can’t wait for the next ones.
