More of a history lesson
More of a history lesson than a book about what Muslims believe and practice, which is all well and good, but not what I thought the book wss about.

Know your enemy before you fight
This book is well written, scholarly, and one has no reasons to disbelieve what Bernard Lewis writes. However those who practice Islamic neo- fascism will dismiss such analysis of Islam as merely a product of imperial, colonial thinking of a westerner and therefor will dismiss that with which they disagree and remain silent on all other aspects of truth and understanding, solely because of the quarter from which it came. I have a much better insight into Islam having read this book. The reading of this tome should be mandatory for all Western politicians, military leaders, journalists and their like etc.

Good for today's environment
Very informative and still pertinent to today's global environment. The history hasn't changed and lessons are still applicable.

I highly recommend this book!
Would you listen to Islam again? Why?
I would definitely listen to this book again. Bernard Lewis presents a very good overview of Islam from a scholarly perspective.
What aspect of Peter Ganim’s performance would you have changed?
His performance was okay, but there were several parts that sounded awkward.
Any additional comments?
This is an excellent introduction to Islam by a recognized scholar in the field. I listened to this book while driving in my car. Every moment listening to this book was time well spent.

He got it wrong!
His animosity toward Islam is clear in his conclusion. Also, some parts of the book, like the relationship with the kins, is a lie! I don't recommend this book

Must read book on Islam
What other book might you compare Islam to and why?
crisis of islam is his previous book. That is much better structured, but this book reflects on current situation much better.
