Once in a generation a woman comes along who changes everything. Tina Fey is not that woman, but she met that woman once and acted weird around her.
Before 30 Rock, Mean Girls, and 'Sarah Palin', Tina Fey was just a young girl with a dream: a recurring stress dream that she was being chased through a local airport by her middle-school gym teacher. She also had a dream that one day she would be a comedian on TV. She has seen both these dreams come true.

Her career at a low point, Dratch suddenly had time for yoga, dog- sitting, learning Spanish - and dating. After all, what did a forty-something single woman living in New York have to lose?

Summary
Mindy Kaling has lived many lives: comedienne, actress, obedient child of immigrant professionals, and now, writer.
With a blend of witty confessions and unscientific observations, Mindy writes about everything from being a timid young chubster afraid of her own bike to living the Hollywood life, dating, friendships, and planning her own funeral - all executed with several conveniently placed stopping points for you to run errands and make phone calls.

Fun but a little insubstantial.
Mindy Kaling is a gifted comic with a lot of skill, but I found this book surprisingly flimsy and vapid. I listened to the whole thing in one go, and it felt fun and also like a bit of a waste of time, like watching a dance movie marathon when you have your period. I don't want to slate her, because I do think she's really funny, but this is a bit like listening to a self-centred fifteen year old monologuing.
Aaaand I didn't want to mention it because hey, be who you are and everything, but her voice is really, really grating after a while.

A Mixed Experience
Would you try another book written by Mindy Kaling or narrated by Mindy Kaling?
Overall, I found this book funny, warm, laid-back-easy-listening... at times a little irritating. Her remarks on men and culture were at times quite brash and cringeworthy. Mindy admits that she fails when it comes to making racist jokes...I wholeheartedly agree, and fail to understand why she persisted with it anyway even though she knew it was an epic glitch.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Her honesty made it interesting.
What about Mindy Kaling’s performance did you like?
I thought it was well read. I like that she didn't read everything. If an audiobook is more than one hour long, I think it helps to have different narrators drop by occasionally. Nice touch.
Could you see Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?
I'd say the Mindy project is the TV series of this book.

The surface level entertainment
I love Mindy. I think she's entertaining and inspiring. So when I heard the sound bite of this audio book I was excited.
When I started listening to the book Mindy's animated voice kept my interest- but after a while I realised that I wasn't being stimulated mentally.
This audio story is very safe- it skims the surface, and I feel Mindy has more to her than this. I kinda wish I'd downloaded Lena Dunhams book.
Sorry Mindy- but I wouldn't recommend this

Little did this Mindy know she would speak almost everything into existence after finishing this book. The oceans eleven thing? Her own show? come on. If you enjoy the office, Mindy project or ... comedy in general. Pls listen. Only listen when you’re driving if you’re a good multitasker as I legit almost rear-ended someone every morning on the way to work from cracking up and wanting to re-listen to certain parts. I love Mindy, but there's nothing here
I'm a fan for the most part, which is why I chose her book. I wish I hadn't now, as her voice grates on you after a very short while, and I would have expected more oomph! Especially as she's telling her own story. It just sounds like any kind of talentless and insta-famous (which she really isn't) millennial just droning on. She MUST have more interesting things to tell us about, and in a more interesting way - she's very talented, but I feel like she didn't go into any depth or especially push herself. It feels a bit half arsed. As if a first date had asked her "so tell me about yourself"

want a headache?
Her voice and manner of speech is absolutely irritating. Just listening to it will give u a huge headache guaranteed. Content wise, half the book are mad ramblings about what the author doesn't like and is not even half funny. Most listeners will end up either confused or not liking the content. I'd definitely recommend to pass on this one. Two hours of this was enough to make me wanna jump out of a window from a very tall skyscraper. Basically this is a four hour meaningless rant. If I wanted to listen to someone, whining and complaining for 4 hours. I'd be listening to my wife.

Tina Fey maybe? Mindy puts everything her way and she is hilarious doing so!
