It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead. Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

Fabulous read
I'm a big fan of apocalyptic fiction and westerns and as a veteran medic I love the authentic feel of this series. Okay there were a few cheesy moments with arch villains and more than a few nods to my other favourite films books and characters but dammit I enjoyed the whole shebang, and will keenly look forward to and appreciate the next books.
Sir you have made me smile, laugh out loud and cry throughout the series. Carry on the fabulous tales of the Lost Boys.

Not that good really, why all the raving reviews?
Again, one of those books where you just get thrown in, almost feels like in the middle of a conversation, and it's hard to get a grip around both characters and story. Add to that a narrator who seems to read all the words in a long line, without much (or any) pause inbetween sentenses and it's really hard to get into the story.
Gave it up after 2 hours, expected so much more after seeing all the good reviews.

If you like characters, this book is not for you.
One botched encounter after another. I only made it through about half of the series.
New mission: Something goes wrong... Some die, some live... Rinse and repeat.
New character: instantly identified as "good" or "bad"... backstory or development left out. They die or they live, but after the first several iteration, I can't bring myself to care, at all.
Pros:
Great Narration.
Cons:
Nonexistent character development.
Little to no plot.

Even better on Audible
I read several of these books when they came out and enjoyed them.
Then life got in the way and I forgot which I had read and which I had not read, so the series feel by the wayside. (Pro tip for authors: if you have a series, particularly if the titles are similar but a number somewhere so your readers can keep count. We will love you for it and buy more books)
Anyway when I saw the complete set on here on Audible I grabbed it.
I love a good end of the world zombie story and these are excellent. I wholeheartedly recommend this set.
The author has written characters you care about, and plausible predicaments (lack of toilet paper!)
I throughly enjoyed all of books. I was sorry when it was over.
The narrator was excellent and brought the characters to life for me.
Thumbs up all the way.

Great story teller!!!
The author does an excellent job of spinning tales & keeping the reader intrigued. The PROPER use of military language is refreshing and nice. Especially since most authors screw up every bit of the military side of the show and that drives veterans insane.

G.I. Joe vs. The Walking Dead... Perfection!!!
G.I. Joe vs. Zombies! I mean does anything else need to be said. I live in the Hudson Valley, which made these books even more enjoyable. Knowing the terrain, roads and towns being discussed made the listen easier. The narration from Talon was equally amazing. You can't beat the deal 37 hours of raw intense enjoyment. You will not daydream or lose yourself. You will sit in your driveway, after your commute, cause you don't want to stop listening (I know I did). If you enjoy ARMY stories you will love this, for the price you cant go wrong.

The Perfect blend of zombies and military action.
Whether you like military action or zombie stories, this one is right for you. If you like both, it is even better. I was never much on zombie tales, but I really like this one. The action is authentic and maintains believability in a post zombie universe. The characters grow on you as the story moves along.
The story carries a good balance of action, drama, and even some laugh out loud moments. I never lost interest throughout the entire length of the series. The miles fly by in no time listening to this one.
I highly recommend this series.

Immersive and gritty
Talon Beeson's narration was as credible as that of a veteran soldier telling his story as I have ever heard. He effortlessly assumes the persona of Nick Agostine and in doing so makes the story his.
I've always enjoyed J.F. Holmes's work, and this audiobook had me hooked through the entire story.

Kinda Disappointing :(
This book has a decent story & the length is great but I didn't really like how the main character was portrayed. He is supposed to be the hero but it seems like the author made him out to be soft. He is always getting his butt kicked & someone has to save him. The Gunslinger (Stephen King) reference in this book was absolutely brilliant & I loved that!
