Summary

After the bloody battle of Colden Moor, the warlike highlanders had lost their independence. They lived in surly subservience to the Outlanders, and only a teenage girl survived to represent the line of kings: Sigarni.

Sigarni the silver-haired. Huntress, whore, princess. All of these she was called. But those who pierce the veil of the future knew that a leader was coming to the North - a leader descended from Ironhand, mightiest of the highland kings.

Really enjoyed this book.

The only problem was the narrator would go from really quiet to quite loud so found myself keep turning up and down the volume on my headset or on my car.

Other than that, I enjoyed the book, it was well read and the narrator employed a good range of accents.

Really good book told well.

Loved it. characters, story, narration all great with typical David Gemmel ease of getting a good adventure out there.

Another Gemmell classic ruined by awful narration

A brilliant story as all David Gemmell books are, but unfortunately let down by the wrong narrator. The narrator would be brilliant for other books but is absolutely not suited to this book. Hard to listen to in places due to the ridiculous accents

Narration poor

I found the narrator struggled with vocal range and the accents were painful in places.

not a bad listen not david gemmells best story, Narrator was a bit annoying with her accents, they were good but just didn't fit the story characters.

Good story, poor narrator.

All David Gemmell’s work is good, this isn’t one of his best. The Narrator is very poor. Extremely strange accent choices.

Listen first ?

I actually enjoyed the story and the narration. I know there are number of people here who weren't as happy as I was. I found it to be something I could easily listen to and a a plausible accent. Adjoa Andoh also read the Rigante series (4 books), which I also enjoyed and I had no hesitation in spending a credit. If you are unsure then I suggest listening to the sample and making your own decision. The narration did not spoil to book for me, more made the story better.

Completely wrong narrator!

I love this book but, I didn't get past chapter 2. The narration was awful.

Who is the person who reads this???

This was one of the first Gemmell books I ever read.....only recently discovering audible and listening to all my old favourites.
Alas, I could not listen to this, I don’t know who this lady is that reads this, but whomever thought it was a good idea to get her to do so, needs to go sit in a dark corner somewhere.
She is a lovely person I’m sure but, in reading this story she is atrocious and I’ve heard better nails on blackboards.
