美濃や瀬戸、益子、有田など、日本では各地で陶磁器が作られ、焼き物の町として知られる地域もあります。
現在、日本では国から伝統的工芸品と認められた陶磁器が、31種類にのぼります。
また、個人の趣味として陶芸を楽しむ人も多くいます。
