Summary

In this new military sci-fi thriller from the Nebula Award-winning author of Cold Welcome, Admiral Kylara Vatta is back - with a vengeance.

Ky beats sabotage, betrayal, and the unforgiving elements to lead a ragtag group of crash survivors to safety on a remote arctic island. And she cheats death after uncovering secrets someone is hell-bent on protecting. But the worst is far from over when Ky discovers the headquarters of a vast conspiracy against her family and the heart of the planet's government itself.

With their base of operations breached, the plotters have no choice but to gamble everything on an audacious throw of the dice. Even so, the odds are stacked against Ky. When her official report on the crash and its aftermath goes missing - along with the men and women she rescued - Ky realizes that her mysterious enemies are more powerful and dangerous than she imagined. Now, targeted by faceless assassins, Ky and her family - along with her fiancé, Rafe - must battle to reclaim the upper hand and unmask the lethal cabal closing in on them with murderous intent.

a great story and exceptional delivery

listening to the next installment (hoping for a book three) the story and plot a fast paced reaction to the ongoing Vatta saga. with the seemingly bleak ending from the previous book (Cold Welcome) Ky was against the grain from the start and wow I was hooked and the best ending one could expect with classic Moon twists. The best Book by far

Good suspense story

Masterful writing and full of suspense. The story is about Ky Watta and brings together the whole series as well as the book itself is full of surprises, humorous and exciting nail biting scenes.

Vatta way to live.

First thing to say is Conspiracy Theory in the real world annoy me. Conspiracy theory in fiction has the same problems. The longer the conspiracy continues and the greater the number of people involved the lest likely to keep it quiet. in this book it transpires that the conspiracy has been going on for centuries with large amounts of private and military people involved, thus making secrecy virtually impossible, especially, as the narrative makes clear not all the conspirators agree with each other. Remember the White House couldn't keep a stained dress secret for a few months.

Secondly there seems to be some confusion as to why the Vattas were drawn into this conspiracy at this time. Unless of course Moon is going to tie up all the loose threads in the next book.

all in all a nice sequel to Cold Welcome but not as good as the Vatta's War books.

The reading/performance was a bit stilted and same-old-same-old.

Days of our lives in outer space

The biggest struggle was staying engaged. There is no real story and the action reminds me of 'home alone IV'... Will not be investing time in the series further.

An Exciting Tale

This is a continuation of the last book “Cold Welcome”. I wish Moon would keep Vatta in space where she was in the first series “Vatta’s War”. In this book we have espionage and intrigue. Vatta finds out her troops have been seized, drugged and held incommunicado as the evidence of the conspiracy against her family and Slotter Key has disappeared.

The book is well written and the plot twists and turns. Moon always creates great characters and strong women characters. The book has lots of action as well as suspense. Moon built on the Vatta family and their business as well as their roll in Slotter Key’s government. This was a hard to put down book. Looking forward to the next installment.

The book is fourteen hours and twenty-seven minutes. Brittany Pressley does a good job narrating the book. Pressley is an actress and an Earphone Award winning audiobook narrator.

Enjoyable but slower

I’ve been reading this author for 30 years. As the last volume of Vattas Peace, there a a lot of maneuvering before any action.

It does, however, reflect Ms. Moon’s pro-military stance. The military bureaucracy, instead of being a burden is actually a blessing.

Not my favorite, but good character development and the action sequences are good — if a little sparse.

Unexpected plot holes

I love Elizabeth Moon, owned and read just about her whole collection. I was surprised by a couple of the plot holes. I enjoyed part 1 of this series but this sequel just didn’t hit the mark.

weaker story

One of the few times I've been pulled out of the story because of a gap in the plot. Lots of action but significantly less character relationship as a result and it stands out as weaker for that reason compared to others in the series.

One of those books you can’t put down.

This is another great Vatta adventure. The pace is constant and intriguing which has you looking for chores so you can put your headphones on and keep listening.

first rate

I thought Cold Welcome was an excellent reentry into the Vatta universe. But into the Fire outstrips it in suspense and complexity. I loved the voice range of Brittany Pressley her interpretation of Rafe was exceptional .
