Summary
It’s an ordinary workday when intelligence analyst Lexie Martin learns about a horrific chemical weapon attack abroad. Just an ordinary day...until a stranger breaks into her house and warns her to forget what she saw and heard, setting off a chain of events Lexie thought only happened in movies. Falsely accused of stealing intelligence and unsure of who to trust, Lexie quickly realizes the significance of the intel and that she must do everything she can to keep it safe. Brilliant!!
Another amazing book from E J Noyes! I loved the story line of this book and the chemistry and connection between the main to characters was done beautifully. And as alway Abby’s narration was outstanding! Highly recommend! 😊

Intrigue
I’m great fan of Noyes and this was an excellent addition to my ‘shelf’. I really hope that there are government employees who have that much integrity. This was a great suspense novel and I’m looking forward to the next book.

As good as ever
Great story, excellent narration. EJ Noynes writing with Abbey Craydens narration is the ultimate combination. When I see these two together I don't even read the synopsis before buying, because I know it will be great, and I wasn't dissapointed.

Gripping, tense, wow!
I bought this on Audible without reading the book first. What a rollercoaster ride! Kept me awake half of last night listening when I really should have been asleep! Great narration of a super, gripping story.

So Good!
This isn’t a romance novel as typically experienced. It’s actually a spy thriller that also contains a really compelling and beautiful love story. I wonder if anyone else drew a comparison between this EJ Noyes offering and her wonderful novel “Alone”? Like “Alone”, at least 90% of this story takes place solely between the two main characters, Lexie and Sophia. Like “Alone”, the underlying cause of conflict between the two MCs are legitimate issues surrounding lies of omission and trust. There are several other comparable themes, but I really want to talk about the spy thriller aspect of this novel. EJ does a tremendous job in making the mundane details of espionage, believable and relatable. This was a really enjoyable audiobook. Abby Craden, of course was her usual wonderful self. I was pleased to note that she has almost lost the her unfortunate affectation of ending a sentence with a hitch in her voice. It made this audio version more pleasurable to hear.

Surprisingly Tedious
I normally love Noyes’ writing and was excited to see her try a thriller/espionage book. Unfortunately, this book is such a disappointment!
At every opportunity to build suspense, the author manages to find a way to back off and dilute the tension. I don’t want to spoil anything for other readers so I won’t get too specific.
I’ll say this much - if your main character’s only worry is that she might spend time in jail once she’s caught, and she believed she will be caught, you’ve not given the reader much reason to fear for the character’s safety. The characters are either in danger or not.
Also, the MC’s behavior at the end of the book is more like how a teenager would act.
Readers who like action thrillers/espionage expect tension, danger, and, yes, gun violence.
The safe house scenario was inane! Why bother???

An ok book
I listened to all EJ Noyes books so far, this is not her best one. It was a little slow in progressing. I liked the MC and the plot was good but it had some boring parts and that is not a regular thing with EJ. Abby Craden did a very good job with it and in a way save it from me leaving in the middle.

Loved it!
EJ Noyes is a writing genius. Her books are always different. This book was very intriguing and I kept rooting for the characters. I will definitely be listening to this again and can’t wait for the next book. Great series!

ugh I wanted to like it
the whole thing was just out there and kind of ridiculous. the plan hinging on if one mc has sex with the other is silly. not a slow burn with the mc's, they were kind of just thrown together. and one of them just seems so oblivious and ignorant. what a let down

Slow Going
Normally a huge fan of EJ Noyes and Abby Craden, this audiobook was tough to get through. Way too much inner monologue by the main character (Lexie) and not a lot of plot or storyline to hold interest. I had to continually go back and relisten to various passages. That said, I’m looking forward to the next book in the series in hopes of a better story!

GRIPPING
This is a great story and I could visualize the characters! Had me glued! I know it’s fiction, but GD if I don’t think about this being feasible in regards to our gov’t!!! Loved it from start to finish!!
