The seventh book in the Tony Hill and Carol Jordan series.

Murdered people don't kill themselves . . .

A quiet night on a country road. The stillness shattered by a car engulfed in flames, and a burned body discovered in the driver's seat. As the investigation unfolds, DCI Carol Jordan and psychological profiler Tony Hill quickly realise that this is more than just a tragic accident. And so begins the hunt for a truly terrifying killer, someone who believes he is invisible, untraceable and untouchable.

As other victims are found to have met the same terrible fate, and with more women at risk, Tony and Carol are drawn into a dark and twisted web of fear and revenge that will force them to question their own ideas of justice . . .

Can't say too much without spoiling things an excellent read but if you've not read any of this series do yourself a favour and don't make this the first one. W

I love Val McDermid, especially the Tony Hill / Carol Jordan series.
Many of the reviews I’ve seen complain about the narrator, he is a ropey in the first book but gets better - and you’ll be so engrossed in the story you won’t care.

Please stop moaning Carol and why the rushed ending

Always enjoy these books. I love the characters. Bit of a funny ending though

Another good one

The plot and the motives were very good. However, I found it a struggle to persevere with it because the narrator lacked authenticity. His Received Pronunciation was boring and his characterisation of voices made every character sound very old. Simply the wrong voice for this book.

A great story but a poor performance
