Summary

lslam is currently the most discussed religion in the Western world, and yet it is also the most misunderstood and misinterpreted. Despite frequent news coverage, we remain poorly informed about the true beliefs at the heart of Islam. How many of us would be able to explain who the Prophet Muhammad was or what the Quran actually teaches?

In this profound yet highly accessible book, practicing Muslim Mamoon Yusaf provides a vital introduction to the essential teachings of Islam. In each short chapter, he focuses on a core teaching from the Quran, such as loving kindness, resilience, gratitude, and forgiveness, and shares his unique insight into how these teachings can lead to spiritual evolution in anyone, regardless of their beliefs, religion, or background. Mamoon also considers the role of women in Islam, as well as the true nature and meaning of the words jihad and Shariah. Finally, touching upon current events, he demonstrates how acts of violence committed in the name of Islam are inherently un-Islamic and boldly concludes not only that Islam is not the cause of terrorism - Islam contains the cure for it.

insightful and uplifting

Highly recommend whether you are muslim or not. Very uplifting and clarifies a lot of misconceptions clearly, but also encourages you to perceive situations in a different way that builds resilience.

Empathic personal account, lacks clarity

Good read to hear about Islam from a Muslim and get a view of some of the basic tenants. A good exercise in intellectual empathy. That said the author spends too much time on his "inside out paradigm" his coaching mindset. I understood it after the first chapter, but the author repeats this idea without adding anything new. While an interesting take on how he integrates these ideas with his own Islam the author needed to clarify throughout what ideas are a part of mainstream Islam, what are specifically liberal Muslim positions and what are his positions. This lack of context makes it hard to place the ideas in the book within a broader discussion of Islam and know how to place the authors ideas. Nice to hear this author's passion for their faith and it helped me empathize with Muslims, but for an introduction to Islam maybe go elsewhere.

It is transformative!

If I wasn't Muslim already , Mamoon's book would have opened the doors to Islam. It certainly led my heart to a deeper understanding of the true nature of life through so many unexpected insights. The narration is very engaging which makes it easy to follow the book all through to the end. What I love the most is the easy way Mamoon connects to everyone and humorously clarifys concepts that have been misrepresented in the media. I've listened to Inside the Soul of Islam more than once and a couple of chapters several times. May your efforts be blessed Mamoon.

Inside out paradigm

This is an exploration of Islam through the lens of the author's inside out paradigm and this was a problem for me as I was seeking a straightforward introduction to Islam

I've been left enriched by this book

Great insights that are useful to those who know nothing about Islam as well as those of us who were born into and raised in Islam... too many gems and bookmarks that I will revisit. An audiobook I'd highly recommend and listen to again and again. Ja za killah bi alf kheyr Mamoon

A great book!

An interesting, beautifully poetic, and wonderful look into Islam and the beliefs that Muslims hold. In truth, I found it quite in line with certain aspects of Judaism!

A must-listen book for those interested in understanding Islam. The narration is also wonderfully calming.

faith is not dogmatic it's personal

very interesting, poignant, & inspiring book encouraging you to reconnect to The Creator. the spirit resonates beyond a specific religion, although Islam is the focus of this book. the idea of the outside in & inside out is fascinating but nothing new for those familiar with psychology. I really enjoyed accompanying the author on his spiritual journey.
