Think you have a good memory? Think again. Memories are our most cherished possessions. We rely on them every day of our lives. They make us who we are. And yet the truth is they are far from being the accurate records of the past we like to think they are. True, we can all admit to having suffered occasional memory lapses, such as entering a room and immediately forgetting why or suddenly being unable to recall the name of someone we've met dozens of times. But what if we have the potential for more profound errors of memory?

Insanely Gifted shows how to transform our thinking and turn our inner demons into allies. How to reframe disappointment (because not getting what we want can be as interesting and useful as getting what we want). Light and deep at the same time
What did you like best about this story?
Jamie walks the talk. He is refreshing. He is not afraid to be vulnerable and share some very personal experiences and feelings to make his point. He encourages us to be walking permission slips and he is being just that for us. He also offers some very practical exercises and tips for us to go deeper and manages to make some somewhat complex concepts very accessible.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes and no. Yes because it was so enjoyable although spending some time reflecting on how the content related to my own life before getting back into it was very valuable.
Any additional comments?
I'll be doing some things differently as a result of this book and will definitely be a better parent.

More interesting and helpful than I imagined
I had hesitated quite a bit before downloading this audiobook but am glad I did. The writing and reading (excellent narration by the author) is beautiful. There was quite a bit on meditation as well and I found the sections on whole body listening and the inner smile meditation particularly powerful (wish these were available as separate downloadable exercises; the author did mention that some meditations could be downloaded from his website but I found it difficult to locate these). There were a lot of helpful exercises which made me reflect on myself and my actions while listening (I did not formally attempt these though with the exception of the two meditations I mentioned). The reason I have given this 4 stars rather than 5 is because the last 20 minutes or so of the book was spent on a personal activist-y preachy bit which did not really fit in with the rest of the book. It spoilt the book for me a bit but, there is a lot of good stuff in the rest of the book so don't let that put you off.

The best personal development book I have listened to
I have read or listened to many personal development books. Most are based around one or two fresh ideas but then are padded out or overly quote from other books in the genre. This is a stand out book with many ideas that are new to me and that I'm looking forward to try out in my work and personal life. It is thoughtfully spoken by the author

Some great ideas but overly simple at times
It started out promisingly but after a while it felt a bit repetitive and veered towards being slightly preachy. The reader was great and obviously passionate about the subject. There was nothing inherently wrong and if you're into self love you'll probably like it. It just didn't resonate with me personally.

Gentle, profound and deliciously funny
I went to one of Jamie's workshops and after having that consciousness and body sensations altering experience, I wanted more. I'm listening this lovely book when I'm not distracted by Jamie's other amazing stuff on Vimeo and YouTube and on his website. :)
I heard many lectures and teachings before and read many books and it starts to crystallise what I find most captivating.
In Jamie's case beyond all the great information he shares and all the conclusions and morals and the super valuable practical tools, I get a quality that is difficult to put to words. It has to do with endless love, deep peace, and juicy aliveness:). And such delicious humour that causes me to feel my laughter as a full sensory experience in my body, like when one bites into a juicy ripe peach and even when after chewing a bite and feeling all the favours and aromes, eventually it hits the stomach that is also pleasurable :)
Jamie's work including this book has shown me new ways to have the best and most pleasurable experience within my body, in relation to myself, in relation to others, in relation to situations NOW
Much appreciation!

Playful self-help for living a fuller juicier life
"We turn up to work every day pretending we're not neurotic and obsessed and insatiable and full of doubt, and we waste so much energy keeping up this mutual pretense for each other because we think if people saw the truth, if people really knew what was going on in our heads, all the crazy truth of our dark appetites and self-loathing, then we'd be rejected. But in fact, the opposite is true. It is when we dare to reveal the truth that we unwittingly give everyone else permission to do the same."
