DCI Andrew Fenwick is on a case, which aims to expose a powerful pedophile ring. Moreover 11 year-old Sam Bowyers is missing, and every second counts.

Meanwhile Inspector Nightingale is investigating the death of a con man who pulled a knife on a policeman, and was shot by Major Maidment. But were his actions as heroic as they seem? As tension mounts Fenwick and Nightingale ask themselves: is innocence in the eye of the beholder?

Well written. Elizabeth Corley continues to develop the main characters that appear across the series.
The story unfolds slowly, keeping you guessing throughout the book.
An enjoyable roller coaster that is difficult to put down.

Great suspense until the end.

This is the fourth book I have listened to by this author and for me the most disappointing. I found the plot uneven and lumpy and the complete reverse of everything I liked about Grave Doubts. The author's early attempt to misdirect the reader over the relationship between Nightingale & Fenwick seems clumsy and almost irrelevant to the plot. Equally it was fairly transparent from about midway what the fate of one of the missing--presumed murdered--boys was likely to be. Few plot twists and slow pace coupled with subject matter which is not for the fainthearted. The narrator is very good however some of the voices he gives to certain characters can be a little grating.

A mixed bag but ultimately a disappointment
