About this listen
Mella lives in a tiny house in the middle of a dense forest with her mommy and her baby brother, Pete. Sometimes her daddy comes, and with him often the bad man comes, as well. Mella knows that she, her mommy and little brother are a secret family living where nobody knows they are, but she can't remember why that is or why her mommy is chained to the floor. In The Tall Trees is a story told through the eyes of our little hero as she must brave what's out there, lurking in the shadows, to save all that she knows and loves in the world.

But, I was surprised to get some respite from the horror endured throughout with the ending, which I found so so satisfying!
The audiobook was amazingly narrated by Laura Greaves and her portrayal of Mella was truly something! I love Mella with all my heart. She's a force of nature, even with all that's happened to her!
I thought the depiction of a child's perception of good and evil was amazing and truthful, plus the machinations of a child's brain to create a plausible explanation for the events is subjected to, was really well executed! I'm looking forward to the sequel.
I know that this story is loosely based on the author's experience and my heart goes out to her and to every child who should only know happiness.
Thanks to the author for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.
A heartbreaking tale through the eyes of a child!
