Summary

First published in 1934, In the Cairngorms was Nan Shepherd's (1893-1981) only book of poems. Although she wrote three acclaimed novels and a remarkable prose meditation on the Cairngorms entitled The Living Mountain, Shepherd considered her poetry to have been her finest work.

In this beautiful audio version, the poems are read by a leading Scottish actress, Gerda Stevenson.

The work was recorded at Canongate Studios in Leith, Edinburgh.
