Summary

Running out of time.

Captain Jamie Callahan is frustrated with his team constantly being at the mercy of the enemy in order to further the MDF’s goals. To make matters worse, his father’s political campaign is ramping up, and Jamie’s every move is being watched by the media. He is acutely aware of all the eyes trained on him, his team, and Staff Sergeant Kyle Brannigan in particular. Meanwhile, Kyle would give anything to stay in the shadows, but he refuses to leave Jamie’s side, no matter the scrutiny. Staying out of the spotlight becomes impossible when their families are threatened and vital choices about their future together can no longer be ignored.

Desperate measures.

Staff Sergeant Alexei Dvorkin and Agent Sean Delaney are enjoying their time together as a couple when Sean’s past catches up with him. As Alpha Team’s long-running mission gets derailed in the worst way possible, Alexei discovers the enemy is playing for keeps, and neither he nor Sean are in any position to beat the odds and win the game. As for Sean, he’s worried that even if they make it out alive, Alexei may never forgive him for giving into the enemy’s demands.

Stand your ground.

Manipulation is the name of the game, but Jamie is done playing by everybody else’s rules. So is the rest of Alpha Team, because if there’s one thing Jamie’s team knows? It’s that they’re a family - and you don’t mess with family unless you want to get hurt.

In the Blood is a 107k-word steamy gay sci-fi military romance with a HFN ending that skirts HEA. There is military violence and torture within the story that may not be suitable for everyone, so please listen with caution. There are also explicit intimate scenes that are not suitable for listeners under the age of 18. This is a direct sequel to In the Shadows, and hearing the previous books in the series would be helpful in enjoying this one.

Beyond Words!

This audiobook is fantastic beyond words! There is so much love, loyalty, and perseverance in the face of trauma, torture, grief, and heartache. It was phenomenally painful to listen to in parts...what Sean and Alexi went through. I have to say that I enjoy their dynamic more than that of Jamie and Kyle, but I love them all. There is plenty of pain, bloodshed, and sorrow, so be aware of that, but the story is so fantastic, I just couldn't stop listening, wanting to see how it would end, and hoping they would all make it out relatively whole. The battle isn't over yet, and I can't wait for more.

I can't say enough about how the narration made the story so much better for me! I don't think I could ever feel the emotions and angst so much just from reading the story myself. The narrator channeled the characters beautifully and made me feel like I was right there, watching and hearing everything that happened!

I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this honest review.

Superb!

Of course, I knew this would be fantastic - as is the rest of the series. There’s some tough listening in this so be aware but Hailey Turner writes in such a way you just cannot stop listening. We know both these couples and I feel attached to them all in different ways. Prepare to get some tissues out though!

Greg Boudreaux, as always, is a fantastic narrator. I love listening to him and he’s pretty much an auto buy for me.

Just a note, it’s not stand alone so you need to have listened to the series. The whole lot are fab though so do yourself a favour and bulk buy them!

blew me away

You know in friends when Joey put his book in the freezer because he didn't want to know what happened next? I'm telling you, this book is incredible! So many times my phone nearly went on the freezer because it was ripping out my heart! The plot is incredible and Hailey had the balance of OMG, family, romance and heat just right.
Greg Boudreaux continues to deliver. His Russian accent is so hot and he brings so much emotion where it's really needed.
I think I need a lie down now.

Amazing!

This series just keeps getting better and better with each new installment, which is something I wasn't sure I could say after a few very hard to read, torturously heart-breaking scenes that played in gory detail while reading this book. Also, this series needs to be read in order, so if you haven't already, go pick your copy/audiobook of In the Wreckage and you can thank me later after you finish binging on it.

I love both Jamie and Kyle and Sean and Alexei, but there's something about the latter couple that just draws me in just a tad more. Yes, they're all hot and they're perfect for their respective partner, but where Jamie and Kyle are a bit about control/power play in the bedroom, Sean and Alexei are about lovemaking with a bit of kink to spice things up and I am a romantic at my core, so yeah.

I teared up and cringed in equal measure when I listened to what Killian was willing to do for revenge, but chapter 17 just about killed me dead. I'll just say I was very relieved that during the saddest part of that scene, I was waiting for the red light to change or I might have run the chance of crashing because of my tears.

Overall, this was a fantastic addition to the series, despite the violence and Hailey loving to torture the guys (and us!). It has a great balance between action, great story-telling and writing, passionate, intense sexytimes and amazing characters I can't get enough of.

Greg's narration was out of this world! All the different voices were very distinguishable and his tone was pleasant and he did great bringing forth all the various emotions this book elicited in me. Super recommendable!

WOW!!!

Once again Turner and Boudreaux add life to words. In this culmination of events, In the Blood is gripping, gritty, and heartbreaking. I found myself thoroughly lost in the plot, waiting to see what happens next. Truly not to be left off your reading list.

I found the scenes with Alexei and Sean harder to listen to, than to read. Broke my heart I love this series so hard. Each time the new one comes out I find myself desperate for more Metahuman files, needing to see how they are all doing... So what they fiction, I love them all. Now can't wait till the last one its going to hurt so bad listening to that but I have too. Greg just makes these I love his voice..

The author tore my heart out & stomped all over it

Okay at one point Ms Turner I was going to tell you how much I totally disliked you, okay I could have called you some really nasty names, because of what you did. But then that ending, how can one stay mad at you after reading that. This was a majorly rough one. What a couple of our heroes went through was absolutely brutal. And the one behind it got what he deserved. Okay I would have liked to have tortured him for a long time before the big finale, but it was satisfying. This One has such major feels. My cat was laying next to me looking at me like, stupid human why is there water running down your face. Yes it was ugly crying. There were times that I couldn’t catch my breath. Jamie’s father, boy he needs some brains beaten into him. I hate when he is around. I loved that we spent quality one on one time with both of our couples, the sexy times were majorly hawt!!!! I cannot wait for then next book in the series. I also can’t wait for the fraternization to be changed so they can be seen out together. They deserve it. If you have read the first three books in the series yet, stop don’t read this one. They need to be read in order. Well done Ms Turner, keep up the amazing job!

OMG the bad things that happened re-tore me up. Greg Boudreaux did an absolutely amazing job narrating this book.

Wow!! This series just gets better and better!

I absolutely adored this book and I think it’s my favourite in the series so far. This series honestly just gets better and better. This book starts to see the various storylines in the series both speed up and come together and it makes for a fast paced, action packed, emotional rollercoaster of a read/listen. There were parts of this book that tore me apart because of what my two favourite characters, Alexei and Sean, had to face, but in her usual amazing fashion Hailey Turner put me back together bit by bit. Beautiful characters, intense storylines, sizzling chemistry and tons of action - an all round perfect book.

Greg Boudreaux did his usual incredible job as a narrator, he brings the characters to life perfectly and he’s a “must listen” narrator for me.

I received an arc of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review

WOW

As the 4th book of the Metahuman Files Series, this book really can't be read without reading the others in the series beforehand. That being said, this entire series is absolutely amazing and so worth it, its not a hardship to listen to the entire thing to get to the 4th book!!
The primary characters of this book, Jamie, Kyle, Alexei and Sean are all ones that are introduced as couples in previous books. The chemistry between these two couples however is just as off the charts as the suspense in this book. There is some aspects of this book, that will make you cry, but they really just made the book that much more emotional and intense.
The narration that Greg Boudreaux did was perfect (like always)! He did such an amazing job at bringing emotion and life into each character. This was one listen that I didn't want to end!

Violence and torture

This is the second Metahuman book I’ve listened to and although I would probably get more out of the book if I’d read the first two, I certainly don’t feel lost. In this book there are two established couples – Jamie and Kyle as well as Sean and Alexei. Instead of introducing a new couple, this story deals with the continuation of Alpha Team’s mission. They have been tasked with taking down the Sons of Adam terrorist network and although they cut off one head in the last book, another segment has continued on with the horrific work and now they are bent on revenge.

This is a book of vengeance and I’ll say right now that not only is it very violent, it also involves very disturbing torture. I consider myself to have a strong constitution but even I was disturbed. To be clear, it was never gratuitous – the events moved the story forward and provided motivation for the other characters as they fought off the threat. All the same, my heart went out to the two characters and what they were forced to endure. We often wonder what we would do when confronted with certain scenarios – militaries train soldiers on how to handle torture. In this case, I don’t think any amount of training could have prepared the men. You might be able to endure something, but watching a loved one going through something horrendous? I don’t know how I would have borne it.

Alpha Team is a group of men and woman who have superhuman strengths, each unique to them. As a team they are as close as family. I love that they women are treated as equals and are strong characters. That cohesion stands them in good stead as they fight terrorists who will do everything in their power to achieve domination. In the future, the world might resemble our own, but after being ravaged by population growth and climate change, there are some parts that are destroyed. A future we might face if we don’t do something about how we are living today. The author’s subtlety is appreciated – she shows the world as it might be without being preachy.

This world also contains a substance called splice that is much like the nuclear threat we face today. Splice kills 95% of all who are exposed to it but those 5% who survive become metahuman. Governments and terrorists alike want to take control over those 5%. The lengths the terrorists will go to is terrifying. There was a scene involving splice and I admit I was crying, again questioning what I would do if I were in that situation.

This is another good book that tackles some tough issues. Jamie’s father is a politician with high aspirations so there is a layer of the political as well. Lots for me to sink my teeth into. And, of course, the two couples. I was rooting for them even as they faced some major hurdles. There’s one more book to come in the series and I’m hoping it comes to audio very soon because I can’t wait.

I love Greg Boudreaux’s narration of these books. Whether it’s a very intense action scene or an equally enthusiastic sex scene, he always hits the perfect note. He also has a knack for providing good interpretations for female characters, which I always appreciate. On, and his Irish, Russian, and Boston are all pretty cool as well. Can’t wait for the next book.

In The Blood, Metahumans 4

OMG. THIS BOOK...... THIS WHOLE FREAKING SERIES... OMG..
Why can we only give 5 Stars.... This book deserves so much more...

Going into this one you have to have previously read and/or listened to the first three books in order to follow the story and not be completely lost as to what is happening and who all the characters are. This is not a standalone book in any way.

This was a crazy wild ride I did not want to get off of. I was on the edge of my seat. Biting my nails nervous about what was happening every step of the way and I loved every minute of it. No joke I really felt like I was put through the ringer with this book and forced to experience all the feelings whether I wanted to or not, Hailey really out-did herself with this one..

I love the entire team of Metahumans but Jamie & Kyle and Sean & Alexi are both at the top of my favorite couples list and I loved getting another look into all of their lives. But man, some parts of this book and parts of what happened when things got extreme were really hard to hear. I think this book was made so much more intense when listening to the narrator, Greg Boudreaux. He gives so much emotion and depth to each and every character that it is just enthralling and impressive to hear. All his accents and voices are on point and perfect in every part of this book. He really did an amazing job bringing this book and all the characters to life, I really felt like I was right there in the book with these characters. <- Which is exactly how you should feel. Completely pulled in and captured by the story. This was So Freaking Good, and I really don't think that could be said enough.

These two make a great team.

This installment of Hailey Turner’s fascinating Metahuman Files series is brought to life here in another amazing performance from Greg Boudreaux. Full of action and emotion with a dose of angst, the story focuses on both main couples from the series. It is fast-paced and intense, and will have you captivated from start to finish.. and probably cursing the author’s name at some point. Greg does a fantastic job of bringing all that emotion and intensity into his clear and nuanced narration, and it’s obvious how comfortable he is with these characters after four books. Heck, they take on his voice now when I read the series, even without audio. Highly recommend, but this isn’t a standalone so if you haven’t listened to the previous books, definitely start with the first. I can’t wait to listen to the final book when it’s ready!

Fantastic and heart wrenching

This is an amazing continuation to the series. However, do not ignore the trigger warnings about on page torture. It is brutal and horrible, both physically and mentally.

In this story we get to follow not only Jamie and Kyle, but also Aleksei and Sean. I love the contradictions in their relationships and their sexy times.

Jamie's father is on the campaign trail, and is making an a$$ of himself. Jamie and Kyle have been working their case so long, and Jamie is stuck with his family. However, when Sean's past comes back to pay a cruel visit, Kyle heads back to try to save his brother and Sean.

I'm not even going to describe what Sean and Alexei are put through during their kidnapping. It is enough to say that PTSD and a fear of losing each other's love are some of the many outcomes.

Jamie was on his way to help his team, but he was caught off guard by the enemy. It turned out that his decision had not surprised the precog, and he was supposed to pay the price. Oh, there's also a new suppressor in town, but that's for another story.

Suicide splice bombers have been set in place in Boston, and things get bad. Jamie and his team decide the decent thing to do is more important than getting in trouble by that point. They break the rules to help with the fallout. Then, they must deal with their own roles in helping the victims.

This is a great listen, but it's quite dark at times. I still loved it very much.

I thought the narrator did a great job. The characters are well differentiated and his pacing was smooth.
