Two weeks of rest and recuperation - that's what the doctor ordered. A change from the usual crime story, with more detail of DC’s past life emerging from his time in Belfast. Still as sensitive and engaging as ever with more than a hint of danger and maybe reflecting the reality of Belfast in The 21st Century, this book was again compulsive and a pleasure to listen to.

This is such a great series from a writer I hadn’t come across before. The hero is an older policeman, and has the stoicism and humour of you can’t get enough of. He is patient and kind, but stands up for himself in any dangerous situation. Self-effacing and honest, I wish I could meet him!
The one I’ve just finished is mid-series, and is one of the best.
A great narrator too. Highly recommended.

I love everyone of Peter Grainger’s books but this one is my favourite. Wonderful and touching story brilliantly narrated as are all the books.
I do hope Peter continues to write about DC and the Kingslake guys.

I wasn’t t all that impressed by the first in the series but each book in the series has been an improvement on the last. I particularly enjoyed this one.

wonderful story, sensitively told (given the subject matter) beautifully narrated, a humour that was just right. I have really gotten to like DC :)
