Summary
Settle in for Susie's Year in Sex, Part 2. This week, Susie takes stock of her favorite and least favorite trends in 2001's erotica and erotic photography books. First, in erotica, Susie's favorite trend is mainstream authors putting sex back in their stories and into their characters' lives. Susie recommends Jane Smiley's Horse Heaven, JT Leroy, Francesca Lia Block, and anything from the Web site www.nerve.com. Susie's least favorite trend is the mainstreaming of erotica - she says there's too many "Best of" versions of erotica edited by people who don't really know the genre. Susie also argues that the mainstream market of erotic photography is really watering down the pleasure of erotic photography. Susie still picks anything by Robert Mapplethorpe, Sally Mann, or Larry Clark. She also likes Erotic Lives of Women by Linda Troeller and Marion Schneider and she makes an overall recommendation for Deviant Desires by Katherine Gates.
Also in this week's show, Susie reads one of her most popular essays, "How Safe is Your Daughter." In her Try This at Home Mailbag, Susie responds to a man whose wife cannot have sex and he feels guilty about spending money on prostitutes. Don't forget to your confidential questions about sex to susie@audible.com.
For Adults Only: Explicit language. Must be 18 years of age or older to purchase.
