Story
A group of close friends gathers at a secluded cabin in the wintry mountains of Colorado for a final holiday hurrah. Instead, it may be their last stand. First a massive blizzard leaves them marooned. Then the more chilling realization: Something is lurking in the woods, watching them, waiting.... Now a weekend of family, friends, and fun has turned into a test of love and loyalty in the face of inhuman horrors. The only hope for those huddled inside is to fight - tooth and nail, bullet and blade - for their lives. Otherwise, they’ll end up like the monsters’ other victims: bright pools of blood on glittering snow, screams lost in the vast mountains.

Summary
The house on Old Mill Road has stood in an open field for longer than Jesse Wells has been alive, its crooked windows and jutting turret tormenting the kids of Warsaw, Michigan the way only a haunted house knows how. Everyone imagines that something terrible lurks within the house’s abandoned rooms - especially Jesse and his two closest friends, Casey and Reed. But when Reed chooses the house as a backdrop for his own suicide, childhood ghost stories are transformed into a nightmare that sends Jesse into a downward spiral of grief.
Nearly twenty years later, Jesse stands on the collapsing steps of the house that snatched away his best friend. Casey has asked him to revisit their old demons, if only to help them find closure that’s long overdue. But tragedy finds them once more, and Jesse is left forever changed.
Now, left to cope with the disaster that had become his life, Jesse must unravel the mystery behind the house that has terrified him since he was a boy. To fail is to lose everything he has left. But success might come at an even a higher price.

Ania Ahlborn never gives her readers...
...a chance to believe that there might be a happy ending. This is her 4th book I've read and there is always a bitter aftertaste.
Narration was brilliant but overall just a 3/5 for me. You're never left guessing anymore.

Couldn't wait for it to end.
The person who rated this a 5 must of been the author. This wouldn't have been bad if it had been a short story. This was just drawn out and dull. The protagonist is just an unsympathetic one dimensional character, Debbie downer in a book. The first 2 hours is when you get the story of the friends and what happened to them. Then it's just hour after hour of nothing. If you're thinking it might be like a King novel, it's not

I found myself highly interested and then the writing would lag and become dull, only to thankfully pick up and become exciting again. the ending felt like a fantastic buildup in a song followed by a failed drop that left you confused with your increased adrenalin coursing through your body trying to find a release! however, I did find that I enjoyed this book overall and that it was able to keep my attention during the down times...but the last 17 minutes.....disappointing
I wish the author did not write an epilogue as it detracted from the story or that since he did...he would have written it with more meaning, purpose, energy, and an intrigue with the ending. I wish the author would have delved more into the origin and reason for the evil that abounded and spent more time with the priest.

5 STAR AHLBORN STORY 3 STAR NARRATOR
Wow, this story is really good: the narrator- not so much. he is just too indifferent as a reader for a book that is chilling to the bone suspenseful: a book that definitely requires various levels and alterations of voice. This is not the guy for such a master of horror, an elite of the pen- Ania AHLBORN!! Its worth the credit, trust me,, I wish I had been prepared for the narration before I listened: would have made it a much better experience I believe!
