Historical Romance with a twist!

Any additional comments?

Love the story of a family with special "gifts" helping a man who's family is possibly up to no good. I enjoyed this because is wasn't too much special. Just a little extra help to help us through life, may it be forsight, vision of a pending danger or just a little know-how out of the ordinary to keep you from turning that corner where the evil person lies in wait for...is definately the type of person, er...family that I want on my side!

I truely enjoyed this one, and I'm looking forward to the rest. I will say that although I've listened to other books narrated by Ashford and had no problems at all, this one seems that she was a bit off her rythm. She's wonderful with the female parts but the male characters all seem the same and very stiff. Not much inflection on their emotions other than, stern. But I still liked the story and will listen to the rest. Maybe she'll get into the swing of things later...we'll see!

Get A Different Narrator!

I've read & listened a many books by Hannah Howell & enjoyed them, she tells a great story. I couldn't even get lost the first chapter of this book the narrator was shook bad! Absolutely NO emotion in her voice! Which is truly sad because she had a pleasant voice & her make and female voices were obvious. But besides the changes in each character's speaking voice she might as well have been reading a dry textbook. I couldn't listen to it, if I want to joke what happens I'll have to read the actual book myself

STORY: GREAT!! NARRATOR: ???

I'm a true fan of Hannah Howell and her writing talent is outstanding. So WHY Ashford MacNab??? There are so many others that would make this story so much more enjoyable. I'm sitting on the edge of a decision to-buy OR not-to-buy! Because it's a continuation and I enjoyed the story so much, I guess I'll suffer through one more and maybe...just maybe it'll be better. Ashford MacNab doesn't have the ability to successfully distinguish the voices of the characters. Many times, I had to carefully listen to the subject of conversation to be sure who was talking. I certainly don't mean this to be disrespectful, but Ashford MacNab is at the very bottom of my choice of narrators list. Tis a pity...it's truly a GREAT story!

Attack of the robot

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

The story is good, though I have not been able to finish it, as the narrator is a bit like nails on the chalkboard for me. Hannah Howell is a good writer, not too formulaic for a romance novelist. The beginning of the story draws me in, but she looses me a bit towards the middle. TBD if it gets better towards the end. I think I might have to read it instead of trying to listen to it if I want to finish it.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Leo...just, seems yummy.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

At first, I didn't think she would bother me, but she is monotone and her sentences are so clipped, she sounds like a robot. It is driving me up the wall! I figured she was no Anne Flosnic during the sample, so decided to give it a go, but how no one told her, "Hey, when you awkwardly pause after ever sentence, and give no tonality to the words you are saying, it makes me want to hit you in the face with a brick," I have no idea. Don't let the sample fool you, it gets worse.

Could you see If He's Wicked being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Not really...not that it isn't good enough, but I am not sure how Chloe or her talents would transfer...

Any additional comments?

I wish I could recommend this, as it is an intelligent book, but the narrator is awful.

Great Story with full of adventure

Where does If He's Wicked rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It rank about 8... and Ashford Macnabb does such a great job you cant put the book down...

What other book might you compare If He's Wicked to and why?

I would compare Hannah Howell books to Shirlee Busbee. I fine that book writers write with adventure and excitement.

Which character – as performed by Ashford MacNab – was your favorite?

Chloe and the little boy Anthony

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

yes

Any additional comments?

I have listen to several books by Hannah Howell and she truly is a good listen and she is a great writer...

Good story, so so narration.

This was a pretty good story. I really liked the heroine, she was funny, witty and smart, not the whimpering, simpering chew on bottom lip heroine. The hero was okay too, I would have liked him a bit more sexy and arrogant, but not a bad arrogant. The H and H did have some good chemistry and there are some nicely written sex scenes, not to graphic, just the right amount.

The story line and plot were very good. The villains were definitely villains! Oh my... they were bad. LOL

There as so much dialogue throughout the entire book which was fantastic. (I like lots of dialogue)

I really liked some of the secondary characters as well. Looking forward to Leopold's book for sure.

As for the narration. It was just okay. The narrator seemed so monotone and a bit robotic throughout the entire book. She really needs to put some emotion in her voice. The men sound like men which is good but still some emotion would be great.

If He's Wicked

This is the first of seven books in the Wherlocke series by Hannah Howell. Each story is about a kinsman in the Wherlocke and Von families who seem to have an extra ability to help those around them. In older days they had been burned as witches. Chloe Wherlocke is the first of the clan's story. She had a vision that sent her to her sisters home. Where in the end she saves an infant from death. She then raises the child until she could give him to his father. Julian Kenwood's life was not what he thought it would be. His wife, whom he loved passionately, was a whore. She took more lovers since she married him. And now wants him dead. But she is not alone. When after an almost successful attempt on his life he is once again saved. The dark haired woman comes to him with tells of why and with whom. Chloe and her family help save him using those abilities. But will it be enough? Will they get their happy ending that all deserve but seldom achieve? The narrator was not as entertaining as in other books by Hannah Howell.

Another fabulous Hannah Howell series!

Love, love, love this book. I hesitated to listen and now I have no idea why! I love the way she writes strong secure women and the men who ultimately love them.

Just like in the Murray Family series (one of my favorite series!), many of the characters have “gifts”. This was never a draw for me before listening to the Murray series and again I find myself drawn into this series with them as well.

Moving onto the next in the series. I highly recommend all Hannah Howell books!

Great Start to a Series

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. HR books are pretty typical, however the beginning of this book draws you in and you want to know more. The Wherlocke family is a family that has certain powers, so this makes for an interesting listen/read. Looking forward to book 2.

Ashford . . . I don't know. I don't like her voice for the main male character. The voice sounds like the man is in pain.

Good story....

terrible narrator. most of the voices sounds like a robot with inflections.... mostly all of the male voices. But the story starts off with a bang and keeps you interested. The end is the best and funniest part. the narrator does her best voices there!
