love this book

Sometimes we must fight fire with fire... or darkness with darkness. The fate of the kingdom fell into my hands when I was one of only a few to escape the city walls. Against evil forces that call upon monsters beyond my comprehension, what am I to do?Teamed up with my childhood friend-turned quick-witted and badass lady, along with a dark elf assassin who at one point was sent to kill me, I set off to find my justice. To expel these monsters from my land... ...even if the answer means taking on a mysterious and potentially dark power myself. Even if I have to become a monster. I'll do whatever it takes to see my kingdom free. Warning: Contains a hero teetering on the edge of darkness, along with detailed harem elements.

Okay, but not great.

I will start off by saying, the narration was really good. I feel that the female "tone" could of been a little different, the voices weren't bad just off to me.

The story was nothing to original but it was compelling and interesting. The biggest turn off for me is the typical cliché bits, and the emotional see-saw the main character is on. He is laughing and joking one minute, then consumed by darkness, anger, and hate the next. The main character as a base idea was pretty good, but his personality in the book is just to boring. Male on female relationships between the characters feel forced and shallow. The interactions between the males all feel like bros at a party, all drinking and jokes, pretty much all the book is lacking is the high-fives after.

I feel the Arthur has peaked my interest, I definitely feel the potential of what this book could have been. With a little work on character interaction and working on the cliché bits and making them not feel "so" cliché. If he listens to criticism and doesn't let the robotic 5 star reviews go to his head, he could create some great books.
