I must marry one of the fae, but the forbidden ice lord wants me.

To secure a human-fae truce, I'm one of five women traveling to their magical kingdom, where we'll be courted by fae aristocracy. We have one month to choose a husband from among them.

Only Elion, the arrogant, beastly ice lord, is forbidden. His torturous scars make the other women gasp. His icy words rip them to shreds. His touch is colder than frost. He lurks in the shadows, never coming out into the light.

One stolen moment with Elion, and I'm intrigued. A kiss, and I'll do anything to call this brutishly handsome lord mine.

Then one of the women is found dead. When you're next appears on my bedroom wall, written in blood, it's clear there's more going on here than solidifying the human-fae truce.

If I'm not careful, I won't become a bride of the fae. I'll wind up dead.

Ice Lord's Bride is book one in a fantasy romance duology. It heats to a high sizzle and comes with a guaranteed happily ever after.

I enjoyed this book. The heroine was relatable and the scarred hero made it feel a bit like a beauty and the beast story. The story was good and I enjoyed world building and other characters, but there were a few bits that felt a bit off. For instance, how quickly she kissed the hero after they had found the other dead human. How poor was the security in the fae kingdom. How easily the son took over from the king and the king could not have been that stupid. But, overall, it is still a good read.

good fantasy romance

I wanted to love The Ice Lord’s Bride, but it fell flat for me. The romance moved way too fast, they were basically in love from the start, leaving no real chase or tension. The story itself got buried under constant thoughts about sex instead of letting the plot or worldbuilding breathe.

It was also obvious early on that the heroine wasn’t completely human, so there weren’t many surprises there. I didn’t feel any real angst or emotional pull, and character-wise, there wasn’t much growth for anyone. By the end, I wasn’t sure who I actually liked, and that’s a sign the story didn’t work for me.

Disappointing overall, especially since the premise had so much potential.

Could have been much better

Because otherwise no HEA and of course the first book ends with a cliffhanger.
if you are like me a bit of a sloppy reader you might have missed that you have to read book one and two to get The happily ever after.

Make sure you have at least 2 credits

This is just another fae love story, with pretty basic writing skills, that ends before the story is finished, forcing people to buy more of the books.
The narration was passable, so it made it fairly easy to listen to, otherwise I’d have dropped it. Its not good enough to want to find out what happens next though.
Can’t even say it’s probably suitable for young readers, due to the more explicit content

Mediocre
