They say I'm a murderer.

Six years ago, Kate Reynolds was found holding the body of her best friend, covered in blood, and clutching the knife that killed her.

I plead guilty.

Kate has been in prison ever since, but now her sentence is up. She is being released.

But the truth is, I didn't do it.

There's only one person who can help: Private Investigator Madison Attallee, the first officer on the scene all those years ago.

But there's someone out there who doesn't want Kate digging up the past. Someone who is willing to keep the truth buried at any cost.

Robert Galbraith meets Susie Steiner in this gripping debut from Niki Mackay.

I love listening to novels whilst working in my garden. However, the prolific use of the “f” word I found offensive and aggressive. I was too embarrassed to listen to it outside my house. Three of my friends bought this book and two said they were disgusted with the language used and stopped reading it. I have a large social network and know of no one who uses such language. A good story is all that is required. The odd expletive is tolerated but why are so many authors using such vile language?

Narration was a little odd and sometimes difficult to follow who said what.
The story started great and kept me guessing but I had worked out the ‘twist’ before it was revealed.

Started good but obvious ending

Sadly I have to join the other reviewers who don't like the narrator in the role of Madison Attalee. I'm hoping that she isn't narrating the next one in the series. 🤞🏻 The other narrators were excellent but she reminded me of a petulant teenager being forced to read (badly) at school. A narrator with better acting skills and connection to the text would be better.
I enjoyed the story and would definitely read more by Nikki Mackay.

If you like a thriller that grabs you on page one and doesn't let go until the final page, this is the book for you. Great characters and excellent narrators which makes all the difference.
Take it slowly and savour every word, I'm wishing I hadn't finished now. Great first book......
