About this listen

My friends think I'm insane, I'm stalking men all over town, and I'm on a deadline.

High-flying journalist Cat Buchanan has been single for six years. So she's sceptical when assigned to write a story on The Rules of Engagement, a book which promises to teach women how to find the man of their dreams in ten easy steps.

As far as Cat's concerned, the book belongs in 1892, but she's promised to follow it to the letter. After all, what does she have to lose by playing love at its own game?

The retro dating guide's recent renaissance left more sane, modern women baffled, but Bolouri has written a character who cleverly challenges the concept. If you hear someone snorting beside the pool this summer, they'll be reading this

Took about 10 chapters of waffling before it got to the crux of the story, I suppose kept my interest as I was interested in the subject matter. in fact the "great guy" that she ended up with was an arrogant prick who was extremely disrespectful if you stand back and analyse his behaviour rather than be swept along with the emotion. Guess its a work of fiction but don't take it too seriously as it doesn't prove any point

didn't quite meet my expectations.

Enjoyable storyline, loved characterisation of both Catriiona & Grace. Well read with authentic Scottish accent. Would read anything else by this author.

Great read

Cat is a busy journalist who writes for a magazine under the pseudonym of ‘Glasgow Girl’. She has a wonderful young daughter whose father was the love of her life is getting married to someone else.

One of her colleagues hands her a book ‘The rules of Engagement’ she is cynical about the author’s statement that you can find your dream date in 10 steps her disapproval leads her to trash the book online.

Painfully aware that she needs a good story to please her editor who feels her work needs more punch. So after her critique the author gets in touch with her editor and requests a lunch meeting with Cat. Unbeknownst to her he also uses a pseudonym, then Cat finds herself doing an experiment following the rules, lol

A fun and easy read, just what I needed with interesting results

I absolutely loved this. It's not for everyone as it is a very modern story but I think it is brilliant. I had a smile on my face all the way through the second half. It is original, witty with a feel good factor. Just what I love. The narration starts off quite pacey but you soon get into it and it is excellently read.

Brilliant book!
