About this listen

Don't be a "Should-Head"!

Stop listening to the voices telling you what you “should” be, or how well you “should” be doing—always harping that you’re not good enough. Whether they originate inside your head or got planted there by well-meaning parents or less well-meaning social media, those voices are liars. They’re harmful to your mental and physical well-being, and can lead to anxiety, depression, or worse, suicide.

Instead, become a practicing Flawsomist!

In I Am Perfectly Flawsome you’ll find real science and personal stories showing the perils of perfectionism. You'll explore ways to embrace imperfection rooted in Japanese philosophies and meet inspiring flawsome role models (both well-known figures and everyday people from the authors' own research).

After listening, you’ll want to make “I Am Perfectly Flawsome” your personal mantra.

In a world where being perfect is forced upon us everywhere we turn, this book seeks to counteract the messages that are causing many to feel inadequate and challenges us all to look for, embrace and love our own flaws. For as long as I remember, I've always had this need to compare myself to others - whether that be in terms of body image or more practical abilities etc, it's always been in my mind to push myself tonbe better. After many years of this, it's really hard to change your mindset to be any other way. However, once I had children, I've really worked hard on not passing this on to them, despite how I'm feeling. In this modern day, we just can't escape the way the media pushes perfection at us from every angle and with the kids having so much access to it all, we've been seeing mental health issues growing at every age. It is so toxic! That's why this book is so important to read, take in and share with our youngsters ...and others! Over a few chapters, this book takes us through different scenarios and helps us to see past the perfection and change our whole way of thinking about flaws. These are the things that make us different and interesting. This was such an uplifting read and with helpful prompts at the end of every chapter, it helps us to start making small changes to our lives that will ultimately improve our outlook on life. I'm sure that it will take a while for me to fully accept (after all this time) but I love that I can keep dipping into this book over and over again and also pass it on to my children and others to help them too.

**I also listened to the audio book of this title and I thought it was nice that the author also narrated this.
Their voice really suited the topics being discussed and being a professional coach anyway, this came across as really motivating and helpful.
This still included all of the journal prompts and indicated places to pause and reflect which I loved.**

well presented and although a tough topic, some really great tips
