About this listen

FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE SUNDAY TIMES NUMBER ONE BESTSELLER THE CALLER

Seven days after being abducted, the body of a twenty-year-old woman is found on a green patch of grass by the Los Angeles International Airport. She has been left with her limbs stretched out and spread apart, placing her in a five-point human star.

The autopsy reveals that she had been murdered in a most terrible way. But the surprises don't end there.

Detective Robert Hunter, who leads LAPD's Special Section, Ultra Violent Unit, is assigned the case. But almost immediately a second body turns up. Hunter knows he has to be quick.

Surrounded by new challenges as every day passes, Detective Hunter finds himself chasing a monster. A predator whose past hides a terrible secret, whose desire to hurt people and thirst for murder can never be quenched - for he is DEATH.

Took a while to get used to the narrator , as the last few books have been a different one , so was a shame to change .

Twisted listening but good

I'm not sure what's going on, but it feels like Carter has slowed the pace for this one and the one preceding it; it doesn't feel like the first few books which were all great and had just the right pace. The one massive benefit with this book and the one before is George Newburn - he reads it like a thriller. When it comes to other characters, Garcia is more how I'd perceive him from the story and descriptions and much less of Judd's "Holy Smokes, Batman" way of delivering the character and the same goes for Captain Blake - Judd is doing nothing short of a bad South Park impression when he voices her. My pet peeve is the love of Carter to talk about the character's "gaze" every page or two. Not a problem when written down, but when it comes to audible, "Hunters gaze went over to the window" has my childlike mind bringing visions of Hunter having a couple of secret boyfriends that he takes with him on jobs.

Prefer George Newburn. Slower story though
