Summary

Get hooked on Heck: the maverick detective who knows no boundaries. A grisly whodunit you won't be able to put down, perfect for fans of Stuart MacBride and TV series Luther.

Heck needs to watch his back. Because someone's watching him... Across the south of England, a series of bizarre but fatal accidents are taking place. So when a local businessman survives a near-drowning but is found burnt alive in his car just weeks later, DS Mark 'Heck' Heckenburg is brought in to investigate.

Soon it appears that other recent deaths might be linked: two thieves that were bitten to death by poisonous spiders, and a driver impaled through the chest with scaffolding.

Accidents do happen but as the body count rises it's clear that something far more sinister is at play, and it's coming for Heck too....

Critic reviews

"Clever and well written with some bizarre murders and masses going on, it's an excellent series." ( The Bookseller)

Excellent listen.

Paul Finch is really back on form with this book. I only stayed with his last book because of Paul Thornley's brilliant narration. Hunted kept my interest from the start, and maintained it throughout. I'd recommend this to friends, and actually already have!

What the Heck?

A series of outlandish accidents take place across south England and Mark Heckwnberg is one of the few people who sees a connection.
Heck is back in the south of Englind, working for on the National Crime Group, and is sent to work with another maverick detective as a favour to his bosses mother. One of her acquaintance has died in a road accident weeks after cheating death in a bizarre event while fishing on a quiet river bank.
I love Paul Thornley as a narrator and he brings Paul Finch's Mark Heckenberg to life. Great narration, great story, great fun!!! (- if you like murder and mayhem!)

Interesting concept and good listen

The concept was wonderful and the links to psychology and history were fascinating but I feel more could have been made of this. I also found the delivery somewhat staccato meaning I often was listening to the performance rather than simply enjoying the characters and story progression. An interesting book nonetheless.

Heck at his ultimate best.

Paul Finch just goes from better to better with every book in the series. Heck just seems to slot into a gap left by many other fictional detectives and is a ' one off ' when it comes to solving oddball crimes, difinitely thinking way out of the box to solve the most heinous of crimes.
Cannot wait for the next Heck to be published. A definitive must for all fans of Peter James, Mark Billingham, wtc.

Just as gripping as all other in he series

I have listened to the full series to date and the only disappointment I experienced upon listening to this one was that it's the last in the series for now at least. Let's hope Paul Finch extends the DS heck series further. An amazing listen well narrated and great story
