"Be yourself" they said. "I want to be" I said. "But who am I?" Have you ever noticed that what you think about who you are, how you should be, how well you are doing changes? This is because our idea of who we are is created in thought and it is the nature of thought to change. Looking at this more clearly takes us on a breath-taking exploration into what is real about us...The first part of Real looks at everything that cannot be true about who we are. The second part explores what remains when our thought-created idea of self dissolves.

Conventional wisdom does not take into account the negativity that we feel. All it says is that we should focus more on working hard, getting that promotion, starting a family, and doing everything else to bring more positivity into our lives rather than dealing with the problem itself. But conventional wisdom has things backward. You see, it is not our success that fuels our positivity but positivity that fuels our success. In similar ways, it is positivity that makes us achieve more by changing our lifestyle, habits, and viewpoints.

Freedom to be able to connect
I really enjoyed this book. The discussion around our thoughts of humiliation and the fear to reveal ourselves is humorously described in the idea of improvisation. The book describes and sheds light on how our thoughts of victory and defeat can become boundaries to getting into our flow. Useful ideas to help remove writers block or stage fright (amongst other things) and step in to the 'now' of human connection and the joy and creativity that can come from sharing the skeletons in our closet’s. Thanks Ernest !

Interesting view on how to living in the now
Ernest Holm Svendsen latest book takes an interesting perspective on how we avoid living in the now. He starts with explaining how science today view the mind. He then introduces a number of exercises that gives a practical guide to examining how the mind works and what takes the mind away from the now. He also explains how the story we tell our self needs to be examined and how total honesty can help us being more present. He ends with introducing how time and now are relative concepts from a scientifically point of view. As a whole the book gives a very practical guide to living in the now.

Gain more presence and peace in life
This book provides help for those, who want to get free from stressful and painful thoughts and gain more presence and peace in life. The book explains basic properties about the brain, how it works and how it unfortunately often works against us. Getting this knowledge about the brain, we get the possibility to break free of its inexpediencies. While doing the exercises, we train the brain to work for us, to be present. The substance is presented in a transparent structure and in a language that is precise and tight. Theory, examples and exercises go hand in hand from the beginning to the end. Meaning, that what seemed to be rather complicated circumstances about our brain, gets very easy to understand and to work with. This is a small book that could mean a big difference to you. Now!

Timeless wisdom meets contemporary brain research
The simplicity of this book belies the complexity of the ideas it contains. In just over 3 hours, Ernest Holm Svendsen manages to distill the core practices of complex wisdom traditions like yoga, explain them in terms of the fundamentals of brain function, AND prescribe a “training program” to achieve the happiness that comes from truly living in the now. There’s no spiritual jingoism here, but rather a clear-eyed, matter-of-fact explication that has the potential to catapult a reader to a new level of contentment despite the twists and turns of life. With one big “if”... and that is, IF the reader heeds Svendsen’s exhortations to actually DO the “training program” he provides. It’s not enough to read about it, it must be experienced through practice. Fortunately for us, Svendsen has taken great pains to make that work as simple as possible, from his clear prose to the summary of practice he provides at the end of the book (and offers on his website for the audiobook audience—be sure to listen carefully for the link!). And it doesn’t hurt that his warm and lilting narration makes it feel as if one is listening to a captivating story.

A simple to understand guide to live in the now
The book How to live in the now delivers what it promises. I am a reader, who normally skip the exercises in books. For the first time I did most of the exercises in this book and I noticed the differences. I feel more connected with the now. The book is easily readable, simple to understand and gives profound theoretical background on the theme’s it addresses. I can advice everybody to read or hear this book. I read several books on this subject and this book has the most profound impact on me. Nico de Vrij – owner of Darts Business Development BV

Refreshing and inspiring! Ernest points us to self awareness, and explains what it really means to be present in the now. Why is that important? Because identifying the constant background noise in our mind, and learning that it is repetitive and temporary is the way to mental freedom, and a richer life experience. Practical steps to our inner wisdom; and many reminders that “there is only now” when we are physically, mentally, and emotionally present in the moment. What does living in the now mean to you, today? “How to live in the now” points to the emptiness beyond personality and identity, and invites you to find by yourself that there is much more to life than the stories we tell ourselves. HOW TO LIVE IN THE NOW
HOW TO LIVE IN THE NOW I have read the book (I like books in paper more than audio-books). And I agree; living in the now is a great thing. Something to strive for, if you want. Great the book takes the quest for The Now, presence, seriously and giving down-to-earth exercises to practice becoming familiar with The Now. I didn’t like the part in the end about how there is no time – it didn´t quite fit with the topic? Why give priority to a useless, intellectual concept instead of giving us a method to gain consciousness so we can stop doing the things that doesn´t work for us any longer? Shortly; I missed a part about The Work in the book. The Work is an effective method to come to value and stay in the present, a method the author is very familiar with. Why isn´t it mentioned?
