I’m not a particularly technical person – just a fan of trains! I found this book accessible and extremely forward-looking. I finished it feeling positive about the future, which isn’t something I say often about railway-related writing!

To much focus is on new tech for solutions to our problems. This book brings to life what railways, if properly planned and funded, could do to improve lives and the environment. Have a look at his interview on Novara Media to get a flavour of the book and his infectious enthusiasm.

the author makes an incredibly compelling argument for rail travel being the mode of transport most compatible with a world going through a climate crisis. sometimes the level of detail and number of acronyms makes it challenging to follow but it is very much worth it. it is also well read with a light tone that kept me engaged all the way through.
