Summary

This updated language-learning audiobook presents an informal, user-friendly Spanish course for non-Spanish speakers who need to learn fundamental words and expressions in Spanish in order to communicate with Latino employees in the household or workplace.

This new edition keeps up with current social trends, taking into account the increasing frequency in which Anglos and Spanish-speakers converse, not only as employers and employees, but also as co-workers.

Rather than emphasize dry rules of grammar, author William Harvey teaches informal, idiomatic conversational Spanish. Passages in the book recreate typical scenes in households or the workplace, with appropriate dialogue passages.

Like the book better

I got this audiobook because I already had the paper version of it on hand. The paper version is chock full of practical info, phrases and vocab--extremely helpful. This audio version...not as helpful in my opinion.

What did you love best about Household Spanish?

The voices of the speakers were pleasant.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The dialogues used common words at a regular pace of speaking that I could translate. I wasn't quite sure how to pronounce some of the words in the second half of the course. It would have helped to break the words down more. There is one part that says these words are more difficult, and saying the words more slowly would have helped.

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favorite?

The male and female narrators were both likeable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

This isn't a story.

Any additional comments?

Just the usual with Spanish; the sounds blend together with speed. Slower then faster would help. The amount of repetition is about right.
