Summary

Versace. The very name conjures up images of outrageous glamour and bold sexuality, opulence, and daring. All of course true, but only half the story. Versace is also the legacy of a great creative genius from a poor, backward part of southern Italy who transformed the fashion world through his intuitive understanding of both women and how a changing culture influenced the way they wanted to dress.

The first book in English about the legendary designer, House of Versace shows how Gianni Versace, with his flamboyant sister Donatella at his side, combined his virtuosic talent and extraordinary ambition to almost single-handedly create the celebrity culture we take for granted today.

Gianni Versace was at the height of his creative powers when he was murdered in Miami Beach. The story was headline news around the world and the manhunt for his killer a media obsession. His beloved sister Donatella demanded no less than a funeral befitting an assassinated head-of-state to be held in Milan's magnificent cathedral. In what was the ultimate fashion show, the world's rich and beautiful - Princess Dianna, Elton John, Carla Bruni, Naomi Campbell, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Anna Wintour, and others - gathered to mourn a man already considered one of fashion's great pioneers.

Waste of a credit

Don’t bother with this book you won’t learn anything you don’t already know even if like me you don’t really know much about Versace
Poorly researched badly written and nothing you couldn’t learn from a brief google search
The narrator is very annoying her voice really grates on your nerves
Very disappointing

Versace

Best freebie I’ve ever listened to. If you’re into fashion and celebrity you’ll absolutely love this book. It has it all. Sooooooo good

Mixed bag

A good story but the narration was robotic in tone and regular mispronunciations of French words in particular

Interesting for background listening

I’m glad I didn’t pay for this as it was included as free, I would listen to this and whilst doing other things so it was nice to have the story in the background. However I noticed the audio would change a lot, like parts were being read in different rooms.

Average

Writing was occasionally overly dramatic. Narrator had issues with pronouncing Italian names. When narrating a book about an Italian family and company, why not check the pronunciations.

Waste of time and credits/money.

If you like a good old and very boring history class this might be a title for you. The story is written like a history book, without any personal story telling, just monotone fact finding from the 3rd person view. I wondered why this book still had mostly positive criticism and found out that if you want to review a book you at least should listen to it for more than 2 hours, I was already done with the book after 30 minutes….(most likely like most of the people, thus not able to criticize). If you really have the patience to listen/read this untill te end, you must be a fan and can only be positive. However for the good of us all, kept on playing it on the background and wrote this review.

I really enjoyed this.

It was a free audible listen, and as I had paid for the last two books, enjoying neither.
I was really pleased with this.
Lots of in depth personal and business information.
I love fashion and business so the perfect combo.

Superb story

Really engrossing tale but made tough by a slightly monotone narrator. On the whole though a really interesting listen.

Best book on Versace you can find

if you want a detailed story of the Versace brand this is perfect for you. I love that the book focuses on Versace as a company and not just Gianni's death. If you want every detail of the Versace company and the family, this is the perfect book.
