Summary
Darkness approaches Dominicus Prime, a literal Season of Night that brings with it portents, madness and strange happenings. Standing alone as a beacon against the darkness is the Monastery of the Last Candle, a temple to the holy light of the Emperor. As the bishops and the cardinals vie for power and influence, a crisis looms among the Pilgrim Drift who are starving in their droves. Discord is rife, and there are whispers of a rising cult, one committed to blood and horror.
Into this political powder keg comes Inquisitor Covenant and his followers. Drawn to the shrineworld by the prescience of the Emperor's Tarot, they come seeking the agents of the Triumverate, a sect of Horusians bent on power themselves. It is the belief of Covenant that these radicals seek an incarnation, nothing less than a divine vessel, a living saint. To what end, he can only surmise, but Covenant knows it cannot bode well. He must deny the Horusians at any cost. The fate of the very sector may be determined by it.

Not great..
Really struggled to follow some parts of this story and was lost a few times with characters. Strange jumps in the narrative that weren't really made clear. I don't actually know what the overall ending was.. I'm sure I'm missing some bits..
Some good parts with demonic descriptions etc but pretty weak overall.

Don't bother.
The story is phoned in, worse the story constantly jumps form character viewpoints with no chapter breaks or much in the way of warning making it nearly unlistenable.

Good listen if a little rambling in the middle
Great story with a few hit and miss points in the middle but otherwise good

Good second book
Covenant is probably the best inquisitor books I have read and the narration is superb, a lot of the twists are telegraphed but that did not detract from the overall story

Good Sequel
Good Sequel to the first book. John Banks is always good at narrating and doesn't disappoint.
John French does a great job of building an ever complex story.
only negative is the lack of character development and depth for new characters. They seem almost disposable.

Even John Banks can’t save this book.
I forced myself through book 1. Got to chapter 10 and had to stop.
It is one of the most dull boring stories I have ever listened to.
John Banks the narrator tries his best but honestly he has nothing to work with here.
Don’t bother in my opinion.

enjoyed bits, but it's not o e for commuting / intermittent listening
as with the first the bits of the story I managed to follow were good. The performance was great. however, with my commuting and the intermittent listening, I really struggled to follow the full story.

Found difficult to follow
One of the first books I had to constantly try rewinding to understand where I was contextually and remember the characters and it must made it an unenjoyable experience.

One of the best fast action packed 40K books I’ve heard for a while
Great ominous locations with a sense of impending doom. A progressive build to a chaotic action packed last third. Really bad to concentrate to keep on top of this one but worth it!

beans
I thought the second book would be more memorable. it wasn't. I can't remember what happened, who was in it. anything. I'm sure it was a good book... probably. a label on a tin of beans retained my attention for longer sorry to say. this was the problem I had with the first book. so I listened to it twice in one week. still didn't retain anything from that book either.
