I enjoyed the narration and the characters, but the storyline lost momentum for me. About 2/3 of the way through I was losing interest. I found the ending disappointing, and I’m not really sure what point the author was trying to make on certain issues (if at all) such as transgenderism / gender nonconformity, family expectations, love, women’s independence. She sort of introduced these ideas but never really went anywhere with them. I preferred her other book, The Girl in Red, although that fell flat at the end too.

Fantastic gripping and exciting always a great read my 2nd book in this series and will definitely read more

While it had the potential to be a great novel the author spent too much time narrating the obvious and introducing the mind of the female main lead throughout the eyes of current modern young woman developing herself into an independent person rather than encorporating the elements of that desire into the mentality more fitting to the time in which the story itself was set. It clashed and ruined the experience. Young adult type story with no true development or character growth. I persisted as much as I could then shelved it.
