Story
My name is Nate Temple, and I’m secretly a wizard. I ride a foul-mouthed unicorn, I drink with Achilles, and I’m pals with the Four Horsemen. I’ve even cow-tipped the Minotaur. I understand the theory of following the rules...I’m just not very good at the application. Because rules were meant to be broken, and St. Louis has a bit of a supernatural infestation these days. Someone should probably be keeping an eye on these things -and probably an eye on me, too. Before I blow up another building...or three.

My name is Quinn MacKenna, and magic doesn’t work on me. When I’m not getting roped into bar brawls in Boston, I’m usually acquiring - stealing is a form of acquisition, you know - dangerous magical artifacts to turn around and sell them to the highest bidders. But I prefer to be paid in favors, not money. Because favors are a hot commodity in the Land of the Fae. Favors are the only currency that will buy the answers I seek: Why magic doesn’t work on me, and who my real father is.

Story
Before the now-infamous Count Dracula ever tasted his first drop of blood, Sorin Ambrogio owned the night. Humanity fearfully called him the Devil. Cursed by the gods, Sorin spent centuries bathing Europe in oceans of blood with his best friends, Lucian and Nero, the world’s first Werewolf and Warlock - an unholy trinity if there ever was one. Until the three monsters grew weary of the carnage, choosing to leave it all behind and visit the brave New World across the ocean. As they befriended a Native American tribe, they quickly forgot that monsters can never escape their past.

Summary
Abandon all hope, the fifth horseman shall ride....
Nate Temple is on the hunt to right a wrong. Mordred - King Arthur's son - has escaped from Hell. And it's all Nate's fault.
Pro-tip: Don't let escapees rob the dreaded Nine Souls on their way out of Hell's Gates. It makes the escapee just an itsy bitsy bit stronger.
But what are the Nine Souls? And what does St. Louis think about having a self-proclaimed king in the 21st century?
Nate must brush up on his history, make uneasy alliances, and appease the King of Hell before everything falls to pieces. Because he's going to need to beg, borrow, and steal every scrap of power he can find to stand a snowball's chance in hell against Mordred and what the notorious traitor has in store for St. Louis.
Because Mordred has been planning this moment his entire afterlife, from that dark empty cell in Hell, and will stop at nothing to get his father's old heirlooms back. A certain Round Table and a sword. Only then can his master plan truly begin....
The world needs a Fifth Horseman. Whether they want it or not... Whether they can survive it or not...

a good listen but rocording does jump in places but nothing too drastic I do think 9 souls was a better story, but this is still one of Shayne's better books

great series but interrupted
I love listening to this series. it always keeps me in suspense of how it will end. my only issue is the random skips in the audio near the end of the book. they take away from the experience.

back to the old formula
the last book was pretty good but this one went back to the old formula of hacky writing. this one was so eye rollingly corny and poorly written I found myself skipping chapter after chapter trying to get to a plot point or actual part of the story. before I knew it i found my self at chapter 60. this time instead of losing his powers outright AGAIN, he simply couldn't use them because he couldn't remember his past.

Mostly Okay
sigh... I have always thought a lot of this series, love mythology but ..lot of the time Nate seem dense but not too bad. I know a lot is to explain the story. However, in this book Nates character is so freaking dense and over thinking almost everything driving me nuts!!. so this book I am sorry to say is 50/50 on scale for the this book.
