Pretty standard

Not a bad collection of short stories but nothing particularly outstanding. The narrator was pretty irritating with a "I'm going to try to change my tone so it sounds scarier" kind of voice. Only 3 stars though I'm afraid (partly because I wasn't!)

Thoroughly enjoyed!

So here we have a deliciously dark selection of horror stories, brought to you by some talented authors! The summary here says it best..."A young woman’s night-time escapade goes eerily wrong. A man is forced to relive the horrible accident that tore his family apart over and over again. An underground thrill through ancient catacombs proves disastrously horrific. A young boy is haunted by the scarecrow in the fields behind his home. And a woman is revisited by the ghost of a psychotic killer in the most dreadful of ways."

I'm really impressed with some of these stories. Often times with short stories, I feel like something is missing, but here most of the stories felt complete. I think my favourite was Scarecrow, where a young boy and his sister are abused by their drunken father. The father acquires a scarecrow to watch over the corn fields but the scarecrow keeps moving. Who is moving it and why? This one was equal parts heartbreaking as it was incredibly scary!! I've always been afraid of scarecrows, they are just so so creepy, so this one really frightened me.

As in any collection, there are some stories better than others, but all of them are entertaining and worth the read! I've found some new authors to check out!! I'd highly recommend you check out this book, and as I write this review, the kindle edition is free, so grab it and be in for an awesome ride!!

Matt Gilcheck read the stories really well. He did a great job bringing the atmosphere of each story to life.

*I received this for free but voluntarily reviewed it. This in no way way affected nor influenced my thoughts.*

Not much horror in this

If you expect to get scared reading this book, never fear. There is no scariness here, just ridiculous stories.

Surreal vs unimpressed

in a nutshell,a few great short stories, but many more half or weak shorts. They ranged from "Tales From the Crypt" level to "that creepy guy who works at WalMart"

Where's the Horror?

I really wanted to enjoy this. I love Horror Anthologies. But it's so hard to find a good one. Only about 2 stories were decent. The last one was the worst.

Eek

What did you love best about Horror Stories: A Short Story Collection?

Good scary stuff. Listen on a dark and stormy night but don't listen alone. Loved it.

Meh

A handful of the stories were really good, but most were boring and predictable. The last one was incredibly long-winded as well as blah. The ones thgthgat aren't interesting rely on gross or horrible things happening. The interesting ones have good concepts and nice twists.

The book itself I would give 3 stars but the narrator was awful. Pausing all the time like the original Captain Kirk, stressing parts of the sentence that didn't need to be stressed, etc. It was really annoying. I hate saying bad thingfs about Scarestreet but there it is. :(

Looking for creepy short stories?

Where does Horror Stories: A Short Story Collection rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I Love the Scaretreet team. This collection was wonderfully done! Ranks high among all the short story collections I've read.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All the character's from "the scarecrow". It just caught me and all the individual character's were unique in there own way.

What does Matt Gilcheck bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Matt did a very good job catching the different characters voices. He was very unique with his talent.

If you could rename Horror Stories: A Short Story Collection, what would you call it?

Creepy stories, a short story delight.

Any additional comments?

Excellent job, as usual!

Wow!

Typically when I have read or listened to short story collections from a mix of authors, I find some are just not that good or interesting... that was not the case here! obviously some stories were stronger than others, but there were no "duds" in the group. Several of the stories even stuck in my mind long after they were over, and either haunted me or had me puzzling out possible explanations. I love when stories can keep me engaged even after I have finished them! Worth the time if you enjoy horror stories that have more substance than just murder and mayhem.

Good Selection of Short Dark Stories

I love HORROR!!!These are very short and interesting stories. My only complaint it was too short, a couple stories I wanted more. Two of my favorites were Graveyard Shift and The Scarecrow (Also Museum I could go on only 2 were ok). Highly recommend this short audiobook to anyone who enjoys horror. I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by Scarestreet I previously read them on kindle in October but it is so much better listening to them. THANK YOU!!
