There is no salvation among the stars...

With every known planet, colony or settlement empty, ruined or completely destroyed, a desperate crew of humans onboard the starship Odyssey, hear rumours of a mythical phenomenon called The Horizon. This magical place on the edge of known space is believed to transport those who traverse it back in time to the moment they were at their happiest.

With only death, heartache and baron wastelands surrounding them, the crew of the Odyssey head towards the Horizon. However to reach this phenomenon, they must cross The Expanse - a 30-day trip through entirely empty space.

No light, no stars, no planets... nothing.

At least that's what they think...

From the author of the Dark Corner series, comes a new trilogy of pure unbridled science fiction horror, with twists and turns around every bulkhead, and murderous carnivorous eyes in every shadow...

Enjoyable start to a potentially mind bending scifi horror series. I was left guessing what was happening to the very end and even then was left with questions that should hopefully get answered in the next book.

Overall i would say this book was reminiscent of media such as event horizon and dead space for the dark twisted atmosphere it creates. Despite the vibe being similar it is very much its own story and uses its own ideas to explore the darker nature of the mind and twists it with a sprinkle of time bending ideas into a thought provoking story.

I know this is not to do with the actual story but as a side note ive got to admit i liked that little opening trigger warning alot. The line at the end about reminding yourself "its just a book!' its just a book?" With the narrator's darkening tone set the book up in a almost sinister way that i loved, great job.

at the beginning the background noise was annoying but once I got used to it it was fine, looking foward to the next in the series.

Literally, the best horror/dark fantasy/sci fi audiobook I've ever listened to. if you are on the fence, take this as a sign to go listen now. Brandon does an excellent job with David's writing, and brings it to the next level

I was gripped from the first page. What starts off as the classic desperate situation where mankind is doomed, through the gradual introduction of the characters you soon get the sense that there's a lot more at play here. Comparing it to Star Trek/Aliens is borderline naïve, the messing with time is at a next level!
The storyline is immediately captivating and soon you find yourself on the rollercoaster. A few small breaks to catch your breath, and the ride takes you to the white knuckle degree!
I would urge anyone that enjoys Sci-Fi and tense horror, to dive in!
