Summary

I'm stuck in the friend zone with the hottest guy I've ever known. Oh, and he's my best friend.

Zach pushes me away the moment sparks fly, and sparks have been flying since the day we met. For some aggravating reason, he's intentionally keeping me at a distance.

The way I see it, I have two options. I can leave town and make a fresh start, or I can show Zach how right we are for each other. The problem is, one of those options has the potential to ruin the best friendship I've ever had.

But I'm considering risking it all for love.

Excerpt:

"Nessa." His voice is a strangled growl.

"This shouldn't be a big deal. You said you're not attracted to me," I remind him.

"I didn't say that."

"You said there's nothing to worry about, and that I should make myself comfortable."

"I didn't think you were gonna skinny-dip."

great story

the female narrator was too slow in normal speed and her different voices were not great but overall performance is great and she has a great accent
male narrator is great too but yeah not good at female voices but can't blame the man 'cause seriously he has a deep voice. overall story is the typical climax and all but overall the story is great.

short story

this story was ok, the female narration was slow. the male narration was good. the substance of the story was a bit lacking for me. but it passed a few hours and it wasn't bad.

Best, so far, of the excellent Never Date series

The story is great. Shorter than the others, but sweet. The narration is excellent! Zachary Webber is perfect and wonderful as always. This story benefits from having two points of view and two narrators. Other audiobooks in this series, with one female narrator only, were great, but still less great than this one. Great tension, great steam, great characters! Jules Barnard knows how to create the perfect blend!

thankfully it didn't last too long and was resolved quickly. this book felt shorter than it was and I'm not sure if that was a good or bad thing.

Under developed plot?

Since when child rape and molestation is a given? My rating reflects my stance on the subject. I’m guessing that child protective services around the world need to start giving incentives to romance writers/authors as the condom companies do. Just saying that condom use is widely promoted while child abuse and molestation is condoned in this genre. What’s wrong with in-bred morals these days? Get a grip Jules Barnard. That female character should never have gotten away with just a threat from the now grown victim. You make it sound as though half of the blame was his when he was only 15 years old and very inexperienced when the molestations began.

Readers with a history of sexual assault or molestation this book can potentially sour your day. Pass this one. This author has other books in this series that you can enjoy.

I don’t really have triggers but the way the fact that the lady groomed him and pounced during his most vulnerable time but got off Scott free isn’t sitting well with me. The dad had suspicions but did nothing. As for the voice actors… the females voice made me consider not completing this book every time it was her turn to read. She made the female character sound grating and whiny.

Triggers, short not much meat

I have to say this was not one of my favorite books, it does touch on some triggers. Which I have noticed is something that Jules Barnard does throughout a lot of her books. This book is a very quick read or listen, with a couple of sexy scenes and a lot of emotional issues this book is not the easiest for some to read. I would rate it a 2.5 out of 5 stars, not because of the triggers but because this book is so short that I don't think that the story is given the attention that it deserved and therefore is lacking. This book is a Jalapeno Pepper rating with an explict scene or two which rate at a Serrano Pepper.

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a quick romance that has a little heat and can be read with in a couple of hours.

I hope that this helps you find your next Tantalzing Tome!

8 minutes was long enough

I lasted a whole 8 minutes before I quit! The female character sounded too much like a jealous stalking serial killer with her angry tone. I’m done.

Doesn't Live Up to Expectations

This book seemed much shorter which shouldn't matter. That being said... I was totally disappointed. After reading the first few books, I kept waiting on the action to start... but it never did. The story just fizzled to an end. Left me feeling like the book was unfinished.

Same as everyone else’s review

The male narrator is getting full points but this was the first of 11 books I’ve read on Audible where I really wanted to stop. I powered through but there were some side quests in this thing which weren’t explored so they probably shouldn’t have been mixed into the story.

Not Friends...

This book is about a couple of infants who think sexual tension is friendship. It was clear they'd had zero important conversations before the start of the novel. What the story did show is how superficial relationships are in our 20s. How we mistake proximity for intimacy. How other people’s friends are our friends. How low our self esteem can be. How nothing matters except outfits. 🙄. I really have to stop reading this immature crap.

Also, the whole groomer/pedo subplot was deeply ick. It stole the main male character's agency and common sense. He was not a man, he was still an abused child.

And don't get me started on the internship plot. Manipulating dumb kids into working for multi-million dollar corporations for free? jfc

Ughk. practically 13

The vocals and maturity of the female character were horrible. I felt like I was listening to a middle schooler. ZW did okay with the poor writing to work with.

This story left a lot to be desired.

I listen to Three previous volumes by this author and I really enjoyed them. However, this one feels like it was written under a deadline. It felt rushed and empty.

Pretty great storyline for a novella

This is both an interesting and unsettling story. Not as cute as the cover and title would suggest. It's interesting because the MCs Zach and Nessa live in Tahoe and work in a casino; and unsettling because the MMC is a victim of sexual coercion. Add to that, the MMC's father is a high roller and his mother is in a vegetative state. That's a lot for any book and extremely ambitious to take on in a novella. I really wish the author could have given me more depth on a number of things, but considering her space limitations I felt like I had enough to support the romance even though it just skimmed the surface of these issues. It didn't address consequences for the offender or therapy for the MMC. A full length novel could have really maximized its impact.

This is my first Jules Barnard book and she impresses me as a pretty fearless author. If she was brave enough to tackle these subjects in a mere novella, I need to see what she can do with a full length novel, so I'll be reading more of her work. Even though this book had the potential to be really intense, its length tempered that a bit. However a fully developed novel with this kind of subject matter could be explosive. Ironically, I wasn't even focusing much on the love story in this book which sounds a little crazy since it's a romance, but that's how much I was pulled into Zach's backstory.
