About this listen
A breathtaking cold case mystery, starring DI Lockyer and DC Gemma Broad. Perfect for fans of Ann Cleeves and Val McDermid.
1999. A group of archaeologists are excavating a Bronze Age burial site in the grounds of Trusloe Hall, a minor stately home in Wiltshire. Excited that their dig is being filmed for a TV documentary, the group are camping onsite and having the time of their lives.
In the blink of an eye, one of the party disappears: a young woman called Nazma Kirmani. An extensive police investigation fails to find any trace of her, and the case goes cold for over twenty years.
2020. When a chance discovery presents new evidence into Nazma's disappearance, DI Lockyer and DC Gemma Broad are put on the case. Did Nazma intend to disappear, or was she taken? Did she walk out on her life, or was she murdered? Lockyer must see past the upheavals in his own life to find out the truth for her desperate family.

Another excellent episode from both author and narrator
If you liked the first two in the series, you’ll love this. Great character development. Great story, expertly read as always from this narrator. If you haven’t read/heard the first two books, I would definitely recommend starting with those. James Lailey is fast becoming my favourite narrator. His performance brings both story and characters to life in a way few others can. The only problem with this third instalment is that there isn’t yet a fourth.

No wonder I prefer male authors
Apart from the incomparable Dorothy Dunnett I do prefer male writers because mostly they don’t include families. The male or female protagonists usually lead lives full of excitement but no wretched children to encumber them. Until this novel I had really enjoyed Kate Webb’s Lockyer stories but this one just had to ruin them for me with his personal life. The repulsive murderer in this novel was made truly evil by his appalling treatment of women. I have such a low opinion of humans especially men (no, my husband was absolutely the best human being on the planet) that this baddie really was unforgettably evil but I have to hope that Kate Webb wasn’t basing him on a real person. Now there’s the boring family dynamic I’m not sure I shall continue with this series.

Fabulous. Oh so twisty.
Once again I was gripped shortly into the book. The author and narrator combo is perfect.

Another absorbing story with Lockyer and Broad
Again Kate Webb weaves a tale with so many twists that you can’t stop listening. Serious issues raised amidst the crimes and a real cliff hanger to conclude the book which will keep us all anticipating the next novel. That cannot be too soon! The narration was perfect too!!
