About this listen

Not everything is roses, chocolates, and vibrators in Zara's life...until Talon, Hawks MC president, wants to claim her as his.

Zara Edgingway is a 26-year-old secretary. She has a daughter who apparently knows it all and a best friend who could possibly have the mouth of Satan, but she's been with her through hell and back. Then there's the hunk-a-licious biker neighbor finally showing interest in her.

If only she wasn't about to face her next obstacle in life, the one she ran from six years ago: her ex-husband.

Talon Marcus is the president of the Hawks Motorcycle Club. For two years he's had his eye on the quiet, reclusive, yet sassy neighbor Zara. Finally, he has the chance to claim her as his woman. Just when her past catches up with her, she'll need not only his protection but help from his biker brothers.

Now, if only she'd stop fighting him along the way.

I was enjoying the story but the female narrator was slow and robotic and not suited for an MC romance. Will go and finish it on Kindle.

DNF will read on Kindle

Some of the reviews I noticed were from people not finishing, I finished, but I’ll be honest many times I was tempted to stop. The story line is good but I don’t think it was written well. The female narrator was extremely slow I had the story on 1.75 speed. To many nicknames!!! Cut it down it just started to annoy me with the nicknames, and they way underplayed the bother come out as gay, this could have been a great character development, but nope they were all surface leave. I know the brother has his own book, but I have to say any books I had in my library by this author, I’ve taken out and will not be listening too. You can show your male lead is a dominant alpha type without have to say it every chapter, it’s just over compensating. And I like there were silly moments, but when your family been kidnapped and you’re meeting your daughter boyfriend for the first time, act like a concerned parent and grandparent don’t go comment on how hot he is! This is where the book was to silly and I spent most of my time think really! They have so many serious events happen and they just make a mockery of it. If you like MC romance but think they are always to serious, then this book is for you.

I recently listened to the audiobook of "Holding Out" by Lila Rose, the first installment of the Hawks MC Club series, and unfortunately, I found it lacking in several areas. One of the most glaring issues was the overuse of the nickname "Kitten" for the main character, Zara. While initially endearing, its repetitive use quickly became grating and contributed to a sense of monotony in the dialogue.

Moreover, the character development—or lack thereof—was a significant downside for me. Both main characters, Zara and Talon, seemed to remain stagnant throughout the narrative. Despite the dramatic events and supposed emotional turmoil they faced, there was little evolution in their personalities or behaviors. This lack of growth made it challenging to connect with or invest in their journey.

Additionally, the audiobook's narrative style didn't help in elevating the material. The narrator's delivery, while clear, did not sufficiently differentiate between the characters, which sometimes made the dialogue hard to follow. This was particularly disappointing during key moments that should have been impactful.

Overall, while the premise of "Holding Out" had potential, the execution in the audiobook format left much to be desired. The repetitive language and shallow character arcs made it a less enjoyable listen. Fans of motorcycle club romances might find some elements to appreciate, but those looking for depth in characterization might be underwhelmed.

Story was so so but not helped by painful stuttery narration. Almost gave up on it.

Poor female narrator

Ok story but had parts that weren’t that believable and you can easily tell it’s a first book and the author has some more development to do

Ok story
