Publisher's Summary

In this indispensable volume, one of America's ranking scholars combines a life's work of research and teaching with the art of lively narration. Both authoritative and beautifully told, The Middle Ages is the full story of the thousand years between the fall of Rome and the Renaissance - a time that saw the rise of kings and emperors, the flowering of knighthood, the development of Europe, the increasing power of the Catholic Church, and the advent of the middle class.

""It's All left to the imagination.""

I really enjoyed the audiobook for the most part. It was very interesting to hear about what life was like for various types of people in the middle ages rather then endless names of kings and battles and dates. The big problem I had with this audiobook was that the later chapters talked a lot about art and architecture. It would have been very helpful to have have a pdf guidebook with PICTURES and illustrations. I even purchased the kindle ebook in hopes of getting pictures, diagrams and maps, but it had NONE! An ebook that discuss art and architecture without a single picture. Boo

What did you love best about The Middle Ages?

An excellent resource covering the subject matter in detail and giving great insight. Well complimented by the narrator.

What other book might you compare The Middle Ages to and why?

A History of Western Civilisation, while this book covers a broader topic it compares well to this book and seems to provide similar insights to life in the Medieval-period.

    "Interesting but not exciting."

Read as one long paragraph. The times I was hoping the author would go into detail, I was left with more questions. Best use of this book is to take notes and do further research to answer the questions you have.
