Summary
Antarktis, Elephant Island, 24. April 1916. Ernest Shackleton besteigt mit fünf seiner Männer das kleine Segelboot, wirft noch einen Blick zurück auf seine restliche Crew und startet die spektakulärste Rettungsaktion in der Geschichte des Südpolarmeeres. Doch dann muss Shackleton noch fünf Tage die vereiste, gebirgige Insel durchqueren, um in einer Walfangstation Hilfe zu holen. Im August 1916 wird die Mannschaft der Endurance aus ihrem Gefängnis aus Eis und Schnee befreit.
