Summary

From what we know of history, Egypt, along with Sumer, were the foundations of civilization. The Fertile Crescent, which stretched from the Nile Valley to the twin rivers in Mesopotamia, gave us our earliest glimpse of organized man. But organized how? For one, both locations gave us writing - hieroglyphics in Egypt and cuneiform in Sumer. There is still some debate about who was first.

In this audiobook, we will start by looking at the gods and goddesses of Kemet - Ancient Egypt. Then, we will turn our attention to the monsters which likely gave them nightmares and humbled them in their quest to bring order to the world around them. Finally, we will look at the mortals which shaped their civilization and made Egypt the bedrock of our own history. Though Egypt today is only a third-world nation, struggling with terrorism and poverty, their heritage remains vital to the understanding of who we are as a species.

the myths and legends.

Any additional comments?

Among the many fascinating facts I learned was that while Egypt as a land borders on the Mediterranean Sea, and certainly the ancient Egyptians were familiar with boating up and down the Nile, they were not seafaring in the traditional sense, and had no God/Goddess of the Sea.

Fascinating

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no.

Any additional comments?

While I wish they used Egyptian rubrics for the artistic depictions, it does a good job of presenting Egyptian mythology without being so much over. I love that they use the Egyptian names instead of the Greek, as well.

Overwhelmed

Any additional comments?

I was always so overwhelmed by Egypt and its mythology. The way how Egyptians lived, what they knew about life, Gods, even death. They knew how to build the pyramids by the time when was no technology. They know so much about life, love, emotions, nature and much more. This book is more about Gods, beliefs, their religion.

Packed With Good Information

Any additional comments?

This is a nice introduction to the Egyptian Mythology. The way this book is represented is really cool. It is described as a story but yet broken into sections of the different Gods/Goddesses. It is fun to read the Egyptian Myths of creation, and also learn about each deity individually.
