Nah

This could have been wonderful but I gave up before I got halfway. The problem is that it is so awfully disjointed. The episode about Cook was the one I was really interested in but they went through it like a history book. Date ... this happens, next date, this happened. Tell me a story, for goodness sake - don't read headings when it is an Audible book. I am disappointed. Even more so because I've loved these kind of Audible specials so far. This one is under par.

Interesting topics

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

yes, if you wanted a brief interpretation of historic events. If you are after a more substantial, in depth program, look elsewhere.

Which character – as performed by the narrator – was your favourite?

good narration

Any additional comments?

I wish the episodes where longer & more in-depth.

bland narration

I thought this lacked a real zing for the mini stories.
the narration was so robotic and bland I felt like turning it off.
I only stuck with it because the actual content was quiet good.

well read

Sadly not as interesting as one had hoped. The narrator was lovely and clear to listen to though.

Very general stories instead of revealing historie

Poor stories... I expected some insights but got none. These are for people who know nothing at all about history.

Nice bitesized information.

Non-linear timeline.

Lots of information. Sometimes repetitive. Why say his third voyage, then that he had already done two voyages though? My tutor would have ripped me to shreds for that.

Something New

Anyone that is interested in History is usually interested in a specific time, place, event, character(s) and subject(s). I personally study the Napoleonic Wars, The age of Sail 1400 to 1890 and Science 1500 to 1960. It is refreshing that something like History Revealed is presented to us all in a short, concise and to the point format. It is a taster for all listeners, covering a diverse subject matter that may light a new spark of interest in a moment in History or a Character that was important in it, that the listener may never have had considered before. It does not pretend to be anything else. It is very well done, short and sweet a bit like the QI books, if you find the facts interesting then you are free to delve into the subject further, if not you are free to move on.

UNSUITABLE NARRATION.

The stories are written documentaries and not lullabies as some of the narrators reading them, especially the female ones. It was making me sleepy instead peaking my interest.

very boring and repetitive

So dull. And once the story is told, it's repeated again in different words. I was bored

Just ok.

2 stars - It was ok

History Revealed is a twelve episode podcast about the history of the world. Some of the topics include the seven wonders of the world, Custard’s Last Stand, Michelangelo, Muhamad Ali and Caesar. While this podcast does include a wide variety of historical topics from around the world, there were some major issues with it that really impacted my enjoyment of listening to this series.

My biggest issue with this audio podcast was with the formatting of the presentation of information within each episode. There was a very awkward shifting between subjects within each episode. It felt like it was meant to be chapters but it wasn’t smooth transitions and it was sometimes a large jump in topics which made it harder to follow along. Towards the end of the episode they would also provide just quick facts about the topic which was even more awkward, because it would be like Topic, then one line about said topic, then next topic and one line of info. Basically while there was good information in these episodes, this awkward formatting made it hard to follow the information.

Another issue with this series was the inconsistency with which they presented the topic. Some of these topics were well researched but others were shorter and the subject barely felt touched upon. Also, some of the topics they chose were not very interesting which didn’t help. The inconsistency with the narrators also caused some problems, especially when they would change narrators in the middle of an episode.

I did like that they provided extra resources for further reading on the topic at the end of the episodes. This is a great way to learn more about anything that caught your attention, especially since this information wasn’t presented very well. Overall, this wasn’t a great history collection. I recommend checking out the audible podcast the Days that Changed The World or the podcast Stuff You Missed in History Class.
