His voice makes her a better writer. It also makes her his prisoner.

Emily Chen's career is stalling. Desperately seeking inspiration for a darker manuscript, she meets Dr. Alex McDonald. His honey-rough Scottish lilt doesn't just unlock her creativity—it becomes the only sound she wants to hear.

But as Emily's apartment becomes a shrine to a man she's never met, she misses the cracks in the symphony. She ignores her family's pleas. She doesn't see the warnings being sent from the shadows.

Because Alex McDonald isn't a muse. He's a masterpiece of deception.

When Emily is lured to Edinburgh for a career-making meeting, she thinks she's heading toward her future. She doesn't realize she's following the same path as the women before her—women who are desperate to tell her that some voices should never be listened to.

"Until my voice finds you in the dark."

For listeners of YOU and MY LOVELY WIFE—a searing exploration of obsession, artistic ambition, and the terrifying intimacy of being truly understood by someone who knows exactly how to destroy you.

This was a bit of a harder book to get through for me because of how realistic and persistent the psychological aspects were. I found myself needing to take periodic breaks.

I also found it a bit difficult to root for the protagonist because she continuously ignored blatant red flags and always thought she was different. I'm never a fan of scenarios where characters display these attributes, but I also understand how realistic it is in the midst of manipulation. I did have some hope for her healing and freedom though, but that final chapter certainly dispelled of any such notions.

I would've preferred if a female narrator was used for Emily's chapters, or at least the narrator didn't use his Scottish accent in those chapters.

Overall, a pretty good book.

Initially i thought that i was was worried about the female voice but about hal fway through the book it got so much better.

The story itself i felt was dark and it worked well. It kept me interested to find out why and how and that is always a sign of a good book, despite my frustrations in the beginning, given that the narration itself was good.

It was believable that it could happen, i know this is fiction but i could really believe that this would occur given the skills that are around

slow and difficult at start but wow once it gets going

I listed to this on audible. A new author and narrator to me who I thought complimented each other. I thought the story warmed up after a few chapters and I started to want to hear more. However, for me the latter part of the book felt the plot could have been a bit more polished as there seemed to be so much going on. It’s still a recommendation from me though

Aptly named the voice. …. Read on and enjoy

Whilst this story is a really great concept and relatively well written, I personally feel it would benefit from being shorter by at least an hour. I just felt the storyline was being dragged out unnecessarily. Also, I don't feel the narrator did the story justice. I feel it would have been better with both a male and female narrator, therefore giving more emphasis to the male 'voice'.
