Summary

During the blackout of 1944, in the small English town of Hurstwick, something mysterious obliterates the church spire and slices through the nearby woods. Was it a secret Nazi weapon, as some locals suggest? Or just a downed plane? Evacuee George Moss finds an otherworldly explanation, then tries to keep it hidden.

Years later, Max Cannon moves to town. With help from his new friends, Ellie and Isaac, he learns of the secret that some residents have guarded for over seven decades. When that secret is threatened with exposure, strange things occur, and the army descends on Hurstwick. As does a visitor from much further afield, leaving Max and his friends in the middle of a deadly struggle....

A small-town science fiction mystery of galactic scale

A ripping yarn

A good listen, Matt Addis’s acting ability shone brilliantly to bring this strange tale to life. A mixture of Goodnight Mr Tom, Lord of the Rings and Swallows and Amazons. It is a ripping yarn, well told and beautifully read.

His name was wren.

Although His name was Wren is aimed at readers much younger than myself, I enjoyed it immensely, it is very well written and very well read. I would have no trouble recommending this book.

Surprisingly good listen

This book is superb, I loved the storyline, the characters were rich and and easy to like get to know. It evoked a sense of place and time much like HG Wells war of the worlds and I enjoyed every second of it. Please write more soon

Brilliant! A Little gem!

Feel like I randomly stumbled a across a gem here after seeing the author (who I had never heard Of) promote it on social media.

I’ve read my share of sci fi and this felt like a special novel it manages to pay homage to classic small town sci fi’ whilst also being fresh and it’s own thing.

I really hope it gets success it deserves and also gets a sequel.

Enjoyable 😀

An enjoyable story, well narrated. would be interested in any follow up to explore what's going on in the wider universe as alluded to by Wren "keeping an eye on the borders".

Wonderful new approach to a visitor

This was a wonderful book. The characters were filled out and seemed real. I can picture them all in my mind. The action paces along quite satisfactory. The author took a totally different approach to the visitor and both his mission and how he resolved his issues. The jumps in time were perfect for the plot. Then ending was very satisfying and a welcome change from authors who want to write a series. Totally full-filling. Loved it. I have 400 plus books in my library. This on is in the top ten. Looking forward to his next one.

A bit long but enjoyable

The story is really several stories in different time frames. The stories are all intriguing if not a bit drug out. I wish, at least for the audible version, that the various time periods had been labeled or denoted in some way. This has quite a few fun adventures tucked into it but the overall story is more drawn out than is necessary. Despite the slow bits Wren is still incredibly fun to listen to and keeps you guessing. Overall an enjoyable read and listening experience.

This narrator has an enjoyable accent and pacing.

Parents: this book is a clean read for YA for sure. Any cussing that would be there is cut off strategically, there's no sexual content, and the violence has blood, some hand to hand combat but not inappropriate for YA readers.

Satisfying, intriguing, and entertaining listen

During WWII a mysterious object fell from the sky in a small English town, completely destroying the church spire and damaging the surrounding woods. No one knew what that was, whether it was a Nazy bomb or something else. Only a little boy found out the truth and kept it for himself for many years.

This was a very satisfying, intriguing, and entertaining listen. It somehow reminded me of Stranger Things, as I could find many similitudes between these characters and the ones of the show. To start with, they are similar ages and are not the popular kids in town. They also experience strange phenomena, which seem to affect more one than the others. I enjoyed how the story spanned many years from 1944 to nowadays, and how the town and its people evolved in such time.

Although this book’s main target audience is teens, I think it can be read by anyone and everyone. I wish I had to read books like this for school, and it’s one I’d definitely recommend to teachers and young teens.

I rejoiced in the adventures of the three friends in their search for Wren. The intrigue was well built and there’s even a twist in the story that I didn’t see coming. Very well done: pleasant story, good rhythm, and likable characters.

I enjoyed Matt Addis’ narration. His characters’ interpretations were very expressive and he used a balming tone of voice that I could keep listening to for ages. The audio production was clean and had no issues.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

spaceman decides to stay

interesting variation of the Alien decides to stay story. Goes through a few generations and is really a juvenile book. Even though it is a different country, kids are kids, trip and drop something important. Trying to sound cool and collected. For me, it was a page turner.

This is a Lovely book!

This is a really good science fiction story and a well written novel. What I enjoyed
was the development of the characters, combined with a well-crafted yarn. I’m left wanting more; I want the story to continue.
I would recommend this story to anyone who likes good stories, and especially those who are sci-fi fans. I guess it’s a YA book but I’m an OA, and I loved it. More, please
