Summary

First Lady Anna Darmond has been kidnapped in a bloody gunfight. It's an unthinkable crime that, if revealed, could cause public panic, so hostage rescue specialist Jonathan Grave and his team must operate in absolute secrecy. But the mission is not all it seems. There are shadows in Mrs. Darmond's past; Cracks in the presidential marriage; Leaks in the country's critical shields of security.

As Grave tracks the missing First Lady through a labyrinth of lies and murder, he confronts a traitor at the highest level of Washington power - and a devastating scheme to bring a nation to its knees.

Loved it!

After reading a few reviews that said this book had an "unrealistic " storyline, I remind these folks that this is fiction not a factual story. After stating this I must say I enjoyed both the writing and the narration. I highly recommend this to fans of the mystery/thriller genre. If you've listened to this series you won't be disappointed.

A great thriller

If you've enjoyed the previous Jonathan Grave novels this reads like candy. The inclusion and details of the secondary characters seem like a step up from the previous stories and is a welcome addition.

Disappointed

I've enjoyed previous books in this series more. The plot line in High Treason deals with a very messy White House. However, considering today's messy reality, perhaps I simply didn't enjoy the story.

Excellent story that had even greater potential

The Jonathan Grave series by John Gilstrap is good "fill in listening" when I do not have a really good suspense thriller to listen to. I listened to this book three years ago and did not write a review. I'm currently listening to Book 2 in the series (Hostage Zero). High Treason is an excellent suspense thriller that could have been better. Grave and his team are charged with recovering the kidnapped wife of the president of the US.

Craziness

I love the Jonathan Grave series but this was out of control. The premise was so flawed. Mr Gilstrap was asking us to suspend all knowledge of facts and how the world actually works. Just way too much.

just Awful

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator is what ruined this book for me, i just couldn't listen to the phony voices for another second.

Can't Rescue This One

While the Jonathan Grave series got off to a promising start with "No Mercy," the quality of each successive offering in the franchise has been gradually declining until here, in the fifth novel of the series, it hits rock bottom.

I'm a big fan of political action adventure fairy tales - the really good ones share a commonality - they present a credible or plausible premise at the core of whatever fanciful plot the author chooses to spin. Unfortunately, the premise of High Treason is so far-fetched, so outside the lines of plausibility that the suspension of disbelief becomes a chore akin to bench pressing a piano, rather than a willing pleasure.

Add a stilted dialogue, read by narrator with a very limited range of expression and limited voice characterization skills - and I found myself asking when this clunker was going to be over.

Please please tell me that this narrator is not doing all of your books.

I’m sorry to say that I can’t stand this narrators voice and accents. The last two books have been so hard to get through because of his voice. John Gilstrap, I love your books, but your choice of Basil Sands, in my opinion fell short. Again, I love your books and your character, Jonathan Grave.

Not his best

- but still a very enjoyable listen. Hopefully the series will continue - and we get a bit more realistic plot and characters
